Essentials nostalgia - the death of martial healing

Why is anyone concerned about what new players' parties will consist of? If you're not playing with them, you won't be privy to their cleric-only adventures. If you ARE playing with them, well, you probably have the older books, and you can share them. Is there some sort of council I was supposed to join when I started gaming, whose members' purpose is to peek over new players' shoulders, cringe, and whisper amongst themselves: "These strangers - they're doing it wrong! Now our home games are ruined!"?

People are behaving as if this is a videogame and it's being patched. It isn't. It's D&D, and there are some new books coming out. The end.

@Garthanos: There are currently 25 classes in 4th edition. Only 8 fit into the Essentials series. Warlord didn't make the cut (too complex for beginners, not iconic from previous editions).

And that's it. It's not the end of the Warlord class, it's not the end of D&D, it's not the end of anything. You can stop trying to make it sound like that, it's just hyperbole.

Here's a speculation bit for 5th edition: The Warlord will be rolled into the fighter as a leader-secondary subclass.

Yup "it was", "used to be", "once had a position as", an iconic new class from the latest edition of D&D it was the intelligent fighter ... now its a non-essential unlikely to be seen by anyone joining the game new just seems pretty sad to me.

Death of martial healing? Wow. The melodrama is thick.

Is it also the death of Arcane healing, since there's no artificer or bard? Or how about the death of Psionic everything, since no psionic classes will show up? Or how about the death of gnomes? Or goliaths?

No new players will ever see or play it? The CB could be patched to completely change the warlord? Man... it seems the sky is falling.

Sure the bible bangers won join the mantra. I am a bard at heart myself just think the Warlord is more iconic to the latest edition.

Newer books bet they have too many in the inventories for it to lose support soon. Psionic power book already announced... nyeh

On the other hand the Mage and War priest seem very "flavor close" cleaner built replacements for builds in the players handbook.

Gonna have to do better... only collectors back purchase something which at quick reading just seems like an earlier version of the same thing.

When they build powers books and players handbooks they actively try to make the builds distinct from what was before... they are not doing that in Essentials they are trying to capture a sameness an essentialness that was being targeted before.

The CB could be patched to completely change the warlord? Man... it seems the sky is falling.

Not likely but neither is it likely my nieces (who very recently got interested) or nephews will have easy access to the computers with net access (at least not my nephew my brother seems to start out ok buys a machine a little two feeble for his needs, let the machine get corrupted with viruses and let his modem get killed then give up) there folks just aren't techie. If I don't purchase them books they will have limited access. ... If I cant purchase that book because wotc isnt really supporting them?

If wizards insists on paper backs in boxes wrapped with old art, I wont be purchasing books either ... my wallet does the talking but I am only one.

By the way ... budha isnt in to stuff(or is he my memory is failing) -but the bodhisatva would kick your hiney.

Of which there is no certainty Psionic Power will get a second book, of which I'd like to point out the Warlord has the original PHB, Martial Power and Martial Power 2 so is (and will for the forseeable future at that) be far better supported than ANY psionic class. So what's your point?

Presumption if the players handbook is effectively and functionally replaced by the essentials (or appears to be). Their is very little reason to think new players who are being introduced through the essentials line will have access to content published in the oldest book from this edition... even with the book available the likelihood of back purchasing books which seem to completely over lap is slim.

I'm still trying to sort that out, but it appears to be that the warlord will never be used again by players or further developed by WotC because it's not in Essentials and there are a couple of kids in Nebraska that don't have internet access.

Its actually pointed out accurately that the Warlord is not really in great need of much further support excepting that without some form of an essentialized release I actually doubt many new players will see it.

Heh well my brother could use tech support but its an example that not everyone is going to be able to reap the benefits we have from character builder.

What you mean is that the new players who do not have internet and do not have any contact with "old" 4e players will not hear about the warlord. I can live with that. Hopefully they will still like the game when 5e comes, and then they will learn about it ;)
