Did you wake up grumpy this morning, or do you make fun out of every rules question, regardless of how poorly the rule was written?
Man, rules designers must love somebody like you. No matter how poorly they do their job, they have you covering their back.
Nope not grumpy. Actually laughing when I read that post. I continue to be surprised by just how many people actually believe that a team of rules designers know better than the people at their own gaming table, what is most fun.
WOTC released a rule set that I enjoy running. Like any rule set, the way it runs needs to guided by the people playing. I am still tinkering with it and it may need more pounding before its just the way I want it. So no I don't think that rules designers do a poor job just because a game doesn't conform to my every desire. If I limited myself to only running games that were perfect out of the box then I would never ever get to play.
Some rules questions will be answered and PLAYED differently by different groups. This normal and good. It means that the rules in a game of imagination allows for that imagination to actually shape play and matter in decision making. When this becomes a bad thing then rpgs stop being games of the participants imagination.
