Even more polymorph questions

So apparently it says in the new polymorph version (I still haven't gotten a hold of it) that you can't polymorph a creature into a construct (among other things) unless it already was one. I find this confusing since as far as I understand it constructs (and undead) are immune to polymorph other spells since they are immune to all spells requiring fortitude saves that don't affect objects. Is there something I'm missing here?

Also, if you polymorph your friend into a troll, can you change him back at will since it's your spell? Or do you have to actually use up a dispel magic or another polymorph other spell to change him back?

I am not sure it is exactly the same as the T&B, but here's a link to the version that appeared in Dragon #280. It is essentially the same, at least, I think.

P. Other is a permanent spell, and so must be dispelled with Dispel Magic.

And what it says is that you cannot polymorph someone into a construct, elemental, outsider, or undead, unless they already are of that type. (The wording can be interpreted as saying that it's possible to 'morph an outsider into a construct, but that seems weird.)

Normal immunities apply, of course.

No, I understood the wording ... you can't polymorph someone into a construct unless they were a construct to start with. The thing I don't understand is how you can polymorph a construct period. All constructs should be immune to polymorph other.

What I mean is that you should not get hung up about polymorphing a construct. The spell description just lumps the unusual types together.

You obviously cannot use the spell Polymorph Other on a construct.

Polymorph any object, however, could be used.

I guess you coud Polymorph Other a vampire, if it's willing
But not a lich, since they're even immune to Polymorph any Object
