Ever had a player get so bent out of shape over something small, then refused to play

Thanks for the imput everyone. :)

He's DMed many times, he's just wanting to play for a change, which I can understand.

I tried to point out that there are going to be about as many CE high elves as there would be CG gnolls, but he still didn't bite.

Hit him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.

It's the only way he'll learn.

Maybe reminding him of the first rule of a DM as a player. It is no longer "his" game. The game belongs to the person behind the DM screen. Play it and enjoy it, or don't. So tell him to get over his "control" fetishes and accept other peoples creativity. Otherwise he is never going to play.

Lets face it, he is saying your (others) ideas suck. What kind of courtesy and respect is that?
He is essentially saying he is the only one who can do anything right when it comes to creating a "good" story/adventure/campaign. The rest of you suck. Your beneath him. You can't possibly perform up to his standards of gaming perfection. Tell him to take his over inflated ego and go...

If he is a bad DM, then I would quit playing with him and just be friends.

D&D is not like a girlfriend, so your analogy doesn't work at all.

D&D is more of an orgy :p
heh, that's one nasty mental image - a bunch of groping, sweaty, incrediably stinky fatbeards. Great.

Why can't I play Swinsuits and Suntans instead? :D

As someone with pets, I've found that positive reinforcement (or lack thereof) is the way to go. ;)

Nonsense! Violence is the way to go. If it didn't work, you didn't use enough.

Though Maddox wrote about children and showing your love to them in this article, it applies to roleplayers as well.

He apparently doesn't want to play that bad, though.

Seriously, there is a point at which you have to say "You know, I've tried to get you interested in the games the rest of us want to play, but you keep finding excuses not to. I've done all that I can do. We will be playing without you. If you ever change your mind, you know where to find us."

Then go have fun and not worry about him. Ball's in his court.

I'm going to do that tonight. I'm going to tell him the game is going to be played, with or without him.

Fair play to you dude. I can understand players not liking a certain style or theme however he seems like he doesn't want to play anything apart from his games.

Kick him in the bollox, ask him again how he feels about your new campaign....rinse, repeat.
