Ever Heard Of A Gaming Cruise?

Would we really want to be stuck on a boat with a bunch of other gamers though? At least at a convention we can leave the Con for a bit :p

You aren't "stuck on a boat" when you go on a cruise. Most make stops at various ports of call, where you can get off the ship and do some sight-seeing and shopping.

I would guess that most of the gaming activities during a gaming cruise would take place when the ship is underway, between ports of call.

I've been on a couple of Caribbean cruises, but they weren't gaming cruises. The idea of a gaming cruise is very intriguing.

There seem to be cruises for a lot of niche interests these days. I have seen ads for the gamer's cruise. It doesn't really appeal to me that much as I think if I were on a cruise ship I doubt I would be very interested in gaming (of the paper and pencil variety). I would likely be more interested in the casino on international waters.

Yup. There are a number being run now. Starting to become quite popular among boardgamers, in particular, given that the hobby tends to have a lot more couple appeal than RPGs. I think there are some comments on the Geek about the next one already.

With a well attended cruise, it promises to be gaming Nirvana. A hundred like-minded people, a week of gaming, a ridiculous amount of food (if you've ever been on a cruise - it is essentially one long all-you-can-eat banquet) and booze to boot. As a boardgame fan, this really appeals to me.

Given a choice of lying on a beach for a week or going on a gaming cruise - it's a no brainer to me. ;)

lol. I could just picture this.

A cruise where hardly anybody leaves their cabins, and nobody leaves the ship at the various stops because they're too busy playing in the giant Axis & Allies game. Except when the ship arrives in Seattle, when everyone unloads because Seattle is to gaming what New York is to theater.

And when the ship finally pulls into its final stop, nobody has a suntan or sunburn.

It pays to be The Gamer Traveler. :)

There is such a thing: ConQuest CruiseCon 2008.

Nicole and I put in our downpayment last month and we're totally looking forward to it. We've talked about taking an Alaskan cruise for years. Going to see glaciers while also getting to game for a week was too good to pass up.

Whenever I hear about this idea I can't help but think of having games set on the cruise ship as part of the cruise, like

Shadowrun
All Flesh Must be Eaten
Call of Cthulhu
