Groovy! Welcome aboard.

We have a couple more steps in the character creation process outline to go, FYI.

I think we're good on number of players now, so I'm going to close recruiting.

Step Seven: Backgrounds

Backgrounds are the ties to the character's mortal and immortal life and encompass a variety of different people, places, and things. You have 5 points to spend on Backgrounds, which are rated from 1 to 5.

Allies - Mortal friends, family, and loved ones in places of importance in the world of the living.

Alternate Identity - A fabricated persona, complete with documentation.

Contacts - Mortal sources of information; people you can go to for rumors, leads, and gossip.

Domain - Your own personal piece of the pie; a territory that is yours to command.

Fame - Notoriety or celebrity status in the mortal world; at 1 you are known locally, at 5 you are a household name across the world.

Generation - The number of steps, or generations, you are removed from the original vampire. No ranks in this background indicates a Generation of 13. Each rank in this background lowers your Generation by one. One rank equals Generation 12, two ranks equals Generation 11 and so forth.

Herd - A ready and regular supply of mortals upon which you can feed.

Influence - A measure of your "pull" and power in mortal society.

Mentor - An older vampire, usually but not always your sire, who has taken you under their wing.

Resources - Your material wealth and belongings. No ranks in this background means the character is barely scraping by financially while 5 ranks indicates a millionaire.

Retainers - Mortal servants and protectors.

Status - Your relative status in vampire society.

Not sure if it's best to spread these out, or to pile them all into one. I just took a stab at it...

Allies *
Herd **
Mentor **

Looks good. You'll want to think about who these people are.

Who is the one ally? An old friend? A spouse or significant other? A sibling, child, or parent?

Who are the people in your herd? Do they knowingly let you feed from them? Are they people you've seduced and feed from in the midst of passion? Do you feed from them while they sleep?

Who is your mentor? The one who embraced you? Or another vampire looking for a protégé?

Step Eight: Virtues

Your virtues are what help to keep you human, despite the monster you've become. They are what keep you from slipping into bloodlust and succumbing to frenzy. Each Virtue starts with a rank of 1 and you have 7 points to distribute among them.

Conscience
Self-Control
Courage

Rosanna would be an online "journaler" (Having likely not heard the term blogger in 1999). She is also intimately familiar with computers and computer technology of the time. My idea here is that her ally would be a computer hacker of some sort who may or may not live in the Chicago area. The caveat here, however, is that she likely won't be able to get in touch with him unless she can find some sort of online access somewhere.

I'm not sure how to answer this one, since I really don't know how feeding works here. Do we automatically have the power to make them forget? Will they wake up if I try to feed from them in their sleep? Can we heal the bite wounds?

Who is your mentor? The one who embraced you? Or another vampire looking for a protégé?
I figured you'd want to decide this one. I'd hate to say it was the one who embraced me if you planned on making me a vampire and then dumping me off somewhere, or something like that. If it matters not, then I'll just say yes, it was the one who embraced me.

Step Eight: Virtues

Conscience ***
Self-Control ****
Courage ***

Vampires don't have an innate ability to make mortals forget what's happened, no. But the act of feeding - sometimes called the kiss - is an intensely pleasurable experience, enough that even in combat it's impossible for a target to resist once the teeth are in.

This means it's easy for vampires to sort of camouflage their feeding: A mortal bitten during a lovemaking session is likely to interpret it as an orgasm, while one bitten during sleep may experience it as a very intense dream. Sometimes victims don't know what to make of being fed upon - all they know is that they like it. Mortals who purposefully seek out a vampire so that they may be fed upon (even if ignorant as to what's really going on) are sometimes referred to as blood dolls. Of course, these are all just generalities and it's going to be up to the GM how a given NPC reacts.

As for the bite wounds: Vampires can seal the wounds from feeding by licking them when they've taken their fill.

Till sums it up quite nicely. The people in your herd are likely to be quite content in their role, even if they aren't fully aware of what that role is.

Step Nine: Finishing Touches

There are three numbers that we deal with at the end that are rated from 1 to 10 instead of 1 to 5.

Humanity - Add your Conscience and Self-Control virtues together and record this as your starting Humanity rating. The higher your humanity, the more in touch you are with what it was that made you human before you became a vampire. The more you give in to your vampiric nature, the quicker your Humanity erodes away. Also, as you lose Humanity, the more inhuman you will appear - paler skin, forgetting to breath, forgetting to blink, etc. If your Humanity reaches 0, you are overcome by the beast within and become little more than a ravenous monster, unthinking, feeling nothing but thirst, and...a NPC.

Willpower - Your Willpower is used for quite a few things, from keeping control of yourself when feeding to fighting the urge to flee from sunlight or flame, to mechanical things like rerolling a failed roll. Willpower is a resource that can be spent and is replenished whenever you act in turn with your Nature. Your beginning Willpower is equal to your Courage virtue.

Blood Pool - We will determine this number during the Prelude. Simply put, blood points are the amount of bloody you have in your system after having fed. You lose one every night upon waking and they can be spent to power disciplines, to boost attributes, and to heal wounds. The lower your blood points, however, the more prone you are to lose control while feeding.

Finally, you have the opportunity to spend what are called Freebie Points to add to other numbers in the various other steps. You can now raise an Ability above 3 if you desire and can boost everything else as well, though different aspects of the character cost varying amounts of Freebie Points. You have 15 Freebie Points to spend.

Freebie Point Costs

Attributes - 5 points per rank
Abilities - 2 points per rank
Disciplines - 7 points per rank
Backgrounds - 1 point per rank
Virtues - 2 points per rank
Humanity - 2 points per rank
Willpower - 1 point per rank

There are also Merits, which cost freebie points, and flaws, which give you more freebie points. There are far too many to list here, however. They are grouped in broad categories of Physical, Mental, Social, and Supernatural. If you are interested in them, come up with some ideas for a few quirks and traits and we'll see what merits and flaws might fit them.

Kiraya, could I get your permission to take the Vulnerability to Silver flaw?

Yes...ish. I'd like to know its origin for the character. Superstition turned real? A werewolf somewhere in the character's mortal family line? An unusual bloodline trait passed on by your sire? Something else?

[sblock=Silver Vulnerability]A trait inherited from Lodin's line would be fitting: I'm imagining him wearing silver jewelry at the time of his embrace. His tearing free the metal that burns because of a weakness imparted by his cursed state quite succinctly alludes to the abandonment of his old life and the costs of his new one. I was originally going to try to work in a reference to the 30 silver coins paid to Judas but I think that does the trick nicely.[/sblock]
