Evil Cleric, Cure, and Heal skill...

First Post
Now i have a few questions *as always*

1. is it in your opinons worthwhile playing an evil cleric over a good cleric? roleplaying and powergaming...

2. how many spellslots should be allocated to Cure spells?

3. is the Heal skill an essential for an neutral/evil cleric with the ability to channel negative energy?

Thanks in advance

I love evil clerics - I've played 3 of them so far in 3E.

Your party is going to be annoyed with you, as an evil cleric, because you're not loaded to the gills with healing spells. Instead of wasting spell slots on heal spells, I usually spent some money on a wand of cure moderate.

roleplaying wise, evil clerics are a lot of fun, IMHO. I also do NOT think they're a powergaming class. Controlling undead and inflict spells aren't really that powerful until you get really high level anyways.

A heal skill is only an essential skill for an evil cleric if you are STILL going to be the "party healer" in spite of the fact that you are evil.

I recently started playing in an Evil-aligned game, and although I'm not a cleric, I thought of the perfect idea for an evil cleric. Just be an UNDEAD Evil Cleric, and then you can spontaneously inflict on yourself to heal yourself!

Yeah it screws over your party mates, but hey, your evil, who cares about them, right? Just watch out for those high-lvl good clerics that try to turn you ;)

Ghouls have turn resistance, and you can add levels of Emancipated Spawn to bolster that. Unless you're facing a good cleric of much higher level, he's not doing anything to you. Of course, the real worry isn't good clerics making you run away-- it's evil clerics making you set your friends on fire.

Ghouls also make a good match for Cleric because of their Wis bonus and their outrageous Charisma bonus. If you play an evil Ghoul Cleric, you're going to want to dip into Blackguard and make the most of your Divine Feats.

edit: Don't forget, as an Evil Cleric you have access to spells which will boost your effective Turn Resistance as well, and I'm willing to bet your DM will allow you to use your own turning ability to counter-turn.

Clerics aren't overpowered because of undead-related abilities (whether turning or controlling). They're overpowered because they have buff spells out the wazoo, combined with decent hit points, BAB, saves and weapon/armour proficiencies. This is orthogonal to what alignment the character is.
