Evil Hospitalers?

Cheiromancer

Adventurer
In Defenders of the Faith, one of the prerequisites is that a Hospitaler be non-chaotic.

Hospitalers who channel negative energy get the Domination prestige domain.

Channeling negative energy is an evil act.

But the class also says that

A hospitalers who becomes chaotic, who willfully performs an evil act, or who grossly violates the hospitaler code of conduct loses all class features and spells...

Am I missing something here? You can be evil to join, the class makes allowance for evil clerics (a special domain), but if they do anything evil they are out?

I've looked at the errata, but I couldn't find anything addressing this point.

Sounds fair - Hospitaler is where evil clerics retire when they "See the Light" ;)

Maybe this is in regards to (in the case of evil PC/NPC's only) the pilgrims or hospitaler facilities under their care. Meaning they cannot commit acts of evil against the pilgrims or hospitaler facilities under their care. As (generally) any member of a church would not commit evil acts against members of their own faith or there church. IMO Evil characters should have the freedom to play there alignment, as long as they are not committing evil against there own kind (ie; pilgrims or hospitaler facilities under their care.)

That is a bit odd, certainly by the letter of the rules you would lose your hospitalier abilities as soon as you tried to rebuke undead. But then, just because you have the abilities doesn't mean you need to use them. And you don't need to be an evil cleric to have the ability to channel negative energy. So you could have something like a lawful neutral cleric of Wee Jas Hospitalier who just never used his rebuke powers.

So, it might be the same thing like with the Outrider from Sword & Fist: "No, this class is not meant to have a Base Attack Bonus Progression, it is not a fighting class"
