This is related to my Creepy Girl thread from a month or two back.

Once my PCs have defeated the creepy girl's wraith and spectre buddies, they are going to come across her "playroom" where they might find some useful treasure. Amongst her things are a trio of dolls. All three are magic and sentient and unrepentently evil. The idea will be that the characters pick them up, the dolls (each Ego 13) pretend to be friendly, then try dominating and tricking their owners against their teammates. Telepathic whispers of "Didn't Bob get too much treasure last time? He doesn't deserve so much now." and "Olaf seems to be a little too friendly with those orcs." and "Bill never takes your faith serious enough. You should show him what your god can do." and so forth.

The dolls don't have any powers beyond sentience and ego, but if I play them correctly, could be a serious problem for the party. As such they deserve an CR/EL rating. What would you rate these at?

Do they show up as evil via detection spells? The reason I ask, because they could be a median for a greater evil. (Yes, this is a loophole, it is not the gun that is evil but the person using it, so it only shows evil when being used). I would set it at 2 or 3 for detection and saves, spells and spell like effects could change that.

They'd show up as evil on their own, but the party cleric almost never uses Detect Evil--he's CN anyways so even if a magic item was evil, he'd still consider using it.

Hmmm... for a rough CR I would say it has to do with what the chances are they can influence the party, or even more basic - what is the party's chance to save vs. these dolls? If it's pretty good, then it wouldn't be too high, way below the average party level. If they can team up to Command a PC, that's more like a CR to match the party, as they will be using members against each other.

I like the idea though, and may have to <yoink!>, ok, I will steal it and possibly throw it in something soon. I may run it as some evil pixie-like things instead though, always fun if they can walk, talk, and mess with the PCs on their own.
