Excerpt: MoTP Rituals (and ToC)

The problem with the high prices is that my PCs are too scabby to pay for them. Still it make the world a little more believable as it stops some of the crazy.

I think it was pirate cat who suggested giving out components as treasure that can only be used in rituals. I might have to try that.

*Nods* I do that, I have even taken it farther. In my game, magical items gain their magical ability by the various trinkets, tokens, etc. that are tied onto them. As such normally to gain a magical item you untie the trinket and tie it your weapon, gear, etc.

However, if they want to they can take that and break it down and use the components of the trinket for rituals. The amount is equal to the amount the magical item is worth.

Hmm, it's a nice idea and I like the image of a magic sword with some totems swinging from the hilt.

Ditto. I don't think any of our PCs would dare pay that price. IF they were given the components for free as treasure, then yes, they would use it once, and possibly never again. Although it would come down to the inevitable argument of "Is now the best time, guys, to use that Rope Trick? No! Save it!"

Yeah I know it was a horribly abusive spell that could do everything from being a really cheap way to run away from stupid enemies, to doing even things like kill a Tarrasque when combined with a goat and a Bag of Holding.

Wha....?

Kill a Tarrasque with a goat and a bag of holding?

You're going to have to explain this one to me.

Extra-dimensional space inside extra-dimensional space = explosion into Astral Plane.

I imagine the "Goat and bag of holding" involves tieing the bag around the goat's neck, and chucking it into the Rope Trick as the Tarrasque stomps by.

Extra weirdness - the rope trick no longer goes up! Instead it drops down into the ground and produces an extradimensional space below you.

The horror!

 I missed that! Perfect thing for looking up the skirt of a passing ogress.

(Ogress is in the Firefox dictionary but teleport is not?)

4e is more accepting of low-strength characters :P Wasn't D&D but I learnt the danger of being a character who couldn't lift his own body weight *shakes head and sighs*
