Akemi looked over at some of the other military personnel that were amongst the refugees of Ark 42. There were not many, and they were mostly pogues… except for the two PFC’s Carpenter and Reynolds.

She shook her head and looked to the rest of Juno’s team. “Ah, okay. I can bring one or two of them. What about the team you brought over here? Or did you not bring a bunch of shooters with you?” she glanced sidelong at the senior member from Ark 11 that was letting the junior enlisted do all of the talking.

“Three or four shooters might not be enough. We don’t need undisciplined bursts of wasted shots, but 3 round bursts or even single shots that count. If 15 rounds each are not enough, then we are mawked anyway. That would be two 3-person fire teams.”

“But I am still in favor of luring the critter into a trap where we can seal it into a section that can be vented to space. What other resources do you have with that shuttle? If we can actually use armored space suits to reach another airlock, maybe we can get it off that way. We could risk a small team getting back to your shuttle if the beast has not figured out about your arrival yet.”

Juno considered that. Six people sounded better. 15 rounds sounded terrible. That was maybe five bursts, if no one panicked.

"We brought plenty. I just figured you'd want some of your own people," she said with a shrug. "The limit isn't manpower. It's ammo. A trap isn't a bad idea...we don't have much firepower so we'll need to make it count. Let me think a second."

There were only a few compartments that could be opened to vacuum. There were the shuttle bays, and there was a bulk cargo exchange airlock that was made to take on or let out satellites and other space-only cargoes that wouldn't work through the shuttle bay. She wasn't sure the shuttle bays would work. They were designed specifically to avoid explosive decompression...not just through safeties, but through the design of the chambers. The bulk cargo exchange COULD work, but the part that opened into space had never been intended to be pressurized.

Finally she shook her head. "Okay, the way I see it, there's the easy way, or the hard way. The hard way is to try to rig one of the shuttle bays or the center cargo airlock to vent out into space. There's a lot of work that'd have to be done to get that to work though."

"The easy way is to set charges near the outer hull, lure it in, then blow them and hope they make a breach big enough for this thing."

Akemi Jordan smiled wickedly as Corporal Juno brought up the easy way.

“That easy way is exactly what I was thinking. I am all in favor of blowing the mawkin’ thing up instead of wasting ammo.”

“We are mainly in this FUBAR tactical situation because those that know better got killed by the beast and only one person managed to get us all sealed in here.”

“But there has got to be more of these hatches that we can close to start cutting off the beasts access to sections of the Ark too. We can slowly and methodically start herding it into an ever smaller area until we can keep it contained in a place where we can vent it to space and let it suffocate.”

She turned to look for that crazy guy Locke. “Locke! These doors are a bit tricky to lock and unlock, yeah? We are going to need some volunteers to help us section off other parts of the Ark to corral that beast so we can kill it.”

Locke steps forward, "If a small group could get to the command center, we could open and close doors from there, as well as monitor any areas that still have cameras active. I humbly volunteer to lead that group...since I have most of the command codes."

Locke's followers gather around him but he holds up his hand, "No, no. You misunderstand my friends. It is entirely likely that those going to the command center will not make it to the shuttle."

A demonic roar echoes from somewhere in the ship, closer than it was last time.

Akemi looked shrewdly at Locke, noticing that he was trying to take control again and had a very uncomfortable feeling when he revealed that he had most of the command codes. But the solution of being able to track the beast and shut doors to corral it away from the refugees was ideal.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the rude demon’s roar. She answered it with a quip, “Yeah, keep it up mawker. We are coming for you.”

Turning back to the others in the planning session, “Okay, gaining the Command Center would be ideal for a number of reasons. Let’s look at the layout of the Ark to the best way to get there on one of these tablets. There has to be a few ways to get there from here, but the beast might need to be lured away to clear a path first.”

“However, once we get a team inside and in control, we can probably get most of the refugees off in a shuttle while we deal with the creature. We shall have the Overwatch position covered and the operational situation will be in our favor.”

Airman Babington

The howl from nearer by spurs Babington into action. He gets to work with the book trying to get the Magic Weapon spell to work one time on this box of ammo. Too bad it'll probably erase itself doing this, but maybe he can find another book later. He wondered where this book even came from for that matter. Did it belong to the demon on this ship somehow? If so, it may want it back... 'No!', he mentally chided himself. 'Concentrate and get this done, or you'll have more deaths on your head!' He forced himself to relax and sink into the flow of the magic, learning the programming language of reality as he went. He idly wondered if he could keep notes and make copies of these spells in an electronic medium. His personal tablet maybe? Note to self to think about it later, when people aren't foolishly depending on him to save their lives...

Juno nodded. "That's a good plan. My squad was on the way there when we heard you guys, in fact. So Locke, we'll escort you up there and get you set up. Then we'll coordinate with you to keep that thing busy while we set the charges, then we'll need your help corralling it in the right section. Meanwhile, we get the rest of these folks out of here."

OOC: pathfinderq1, are you still with us?

Locke responds to Juno, "I don't think there's time for you to escort me as well as distract the creature. I should go alone, or, perhaps, with one or two others."

Almerton steps forward, "I'll make sure he gets to the command center."

Babington successfully enchants a box of ammunition and, as he expected, the spell vanishes from the book. In fact, the page itself flashes brightly and burns away, leaving nothing of itself behind, as if it were never there to begin with.

OOC: Babington will need to maintain concentration on the spell...the spell will end the moment he breaks concentration, or at the one hour mark, whichever comes first. While the spell is in effect, all attack and damage rolls made using the enchanted ammo get a +1 bonus.

There are 100 rounds enchanted by the spell - I'll need to know how they are being divvied up, who has them, and when they are being used.

Akemi did not trust the lunatic and his sudden insistence to go alone to the Command Center did not leave her with the war, fuzzy feeling of confidence.

“Yeah, someone needs to go with him. Joy, what about you too?” She asked. If Akemi was not sending a shooter with the megalomaniac doctor, Joy was the next person she could trust amongst the so called chosen.

“That would be three,” she stated the obvious as she looked to Juno and then to the box of ammunition that Airman Babington was enchanting.

Akemi looked back up at the Marine Corporal, “Two fire teams of three, yours and mine. 16 rounds each and we practice strict fire discipline.”

“No mawkin’ full auto bursts,”
she added with steel in her tone as she looked at the shooters they were considering, to include PFC’s Reynolds and Carpenter.

“Sound good?” Akemi asked Juno. “Then we open the hatch and start moving out to clear a path for the squint’s team.”

Juno nodded. It didn't sound good. It sounded AWFUL. 16 rounds was NOTHING. Six soldiers was NOTHING.

But it was what they had. Given that...

Yeah, it sounded good.

"Almerton, Babington, you're with me."
