You speak the truth Lokin...

Pointy end that way seems obvious when it comes to swords I guess but wizards are also a notoriously absentminded lot so I stand by my first assessment as to the fates of the former owners....they drank the unlabeled potions...makes me feel better anyway. Less frustrated that I can't figure it out you know...humor - cure all etc....

<chuckles>

Oh, shiny things I love shiny things Zurd says as he holds up handfuls of copper and silver coins alternatively. Then thinking to himself... well we are going to have to hire some porters from town for sure to come fetch all this coin. I wonder if I could buy that little town we stayed in for 30,000cp.

Other random thoughts of grandeur fill his head until he pick up on the markings on the containers Kol and Payne are playing with ....I could hire a 100 man army for 3 coppers a day for a month and take over the little town I guess...humm...anyway...

BL, PP, hey Kongu, any of this crap ring a bell with your stories or lore. Might they be gifts for say relatives, former nobles, children or some such. I did enjoy your story about the pair of lovers but can't for the life of me remember any names in it save theirs.

Well, I guess they could be fiery traps of death just waiting for some robber to try and open them...let me have a look at one. I might be just the man they are looking for.

Zurd then goes over to grab a container of his own to see what its markings might reveal. Once he reads it he is going to try and figure out if here is some way to open them.

Payne... he says sort of jokingly before he actually opens the first one. You ever hear of a trap like this? You are the expert on this kind of stuff - come stand by me while I open this one. Can't imagine dieing with anyone else here for eternal company.

He makes he motions of opening the container but waits before actually doing so to catch any looks of horror on the collective faces if there are any he stops and waits for objections before moving on with his task.

Kyle has, in the meantime, regained consciousness.

In response to Zurd, Kongu says, "No, I don't recall anything I've heard about that set of figures. In fact, I don't really know much about what they kept. The bards all tell that they acquired great wealth, but what form it's in, I don't know. The lore about the beasts they defeated is a lot more specific. Ever hear of an athach? It's a hideous giant creature, twenty feet tall, and bent on destruction. Not often seen -- but then, I don't think I'd recognize one if I did see it."

The container Zurd picks up is labelled "W". Nothing rattles in it when he shakes it.

Surprisingly, Payne does in fact move over next to Zurd. But instead of preparing herself for the end, she puts out one gloved hand. ``Before you go opening a can of worms, perhaps I should check it for traps.`` The canister that she was holding is tucked under one arm, deciding to check over Zurd's before he foolishly breaks the seal.

My dear I hoped you'd say that - please do <with a wink>

I wonder if perhaps these are little renderings of thier foes or something like that?

If you will do the honors, my lady <clicking his heals together and handing it to Payne>

He stays close to her as a sign of trust and willingness to share the danger with her.

Payne takes the canister from Zurd, looking it over for anything out of the ordinary. Her mind was racing trying to come up with any idea of what the letters may mean. ``I was thinking that maybe they are.. actually labels of what is inside. Maybe the W stands for water, and that's why it didn't rattle. And.. maybe Kol's stood for platinum pieces? I've no clue in hell what the BL could stand for..`` She pauses, and after scanning Zurd's canister for any traps.. she actually hands him the one marked BL. ``Hold this a moment, before we go opening any of the canisters.. I'd like to check all the etchings on 'em.`` With that said, she moves to pick up yet another canister.. and another.. seeing what letters mark them.

One by one, Payne sees these marks on the canisters (including the three already observed)

``Ah, hell. I don't know what this all means.`` Having gone back to the canister Zurd was holding, the one she had all ready searched for traps (assuming she found none), Payne grasps it in both hands and pulls the lid from the canister.

This is the one labelled "W", right?

Inside is a dark red liquid.

Well, thats icky looking....

Wonder what its purpose is, it did not seem to be magical when I cast my spell earlier and scanned the room for items and auras.

Any thoughts before I have a taste?

Alchemy check: http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=546479

Zurd will go ahead and taste a tiny bit with the bare tip of his pinky finger to see what information he might gather.

[sblock] Rolling alchemy to use my training and experience in the field to help identify a compound or substance (non-magical) by its color consistency, taste and or smell. I may have come across it at some point (or something similar) working with stuff in my formative years with the orc shamans.

Also here is the relevant portion of he SRD I was trying to use to identify the potion.

Identifying Potions
In addition to the standard methods of identification, PCs can sample from each container they find to attempt to determine the nature of the liquid inside. An experienced character learns to identify potions by memory—for example, the last time she tasted a liquid that reminded her of almonds, it turned out to be a potion of cure moderate wounds.

I rolled a 15 alchemy check to see if my experience there could help me ID the items tastes/smells etc. Also I did earlier cast Detect magic and concentrate on the items in the box so I should have an idea of the school of magic associated with the potion and each scroll.

Thanks....
