And I'm sorry, I might have missed the answer to this... Is it standalone and self-contained? Or is it like M&M/W&W where it's more a fantasy supplement for Spycraft than a standalone game?

FantasyCraft is fully stand-alone. Once you've got the book in your (digital or otherwise) hands, you've got everything you need to play.

As Foghorn said, it's stand alone. You might want the Spellbound PDFs for 'specialist' mages, Fragile Minds for CoC style horror (namely the Table of Sproing, the stress damage version of the critical injury table), and Origin of the Species: Lights of Olympus for PC Centaurs, Fauns, Merfolk, and Medusas. Origin of the Species: Classic Fantasy will help if you want more subraces for Elves, Dwarves, and Pech, or Half-Elven and Half-Orc PCs. Using these might take some extra work though, since they're written for Spycraft 2.0. About as much as, say 3.0 to 3.5 or 3.5 to Pathfinder, but not always as obvious.

That said, the Mage is perfectly servicable as the sole spellcaster, Stress Damage will serve your needs if you don't want insanity to be a risk the way it is in CoC, and the book has rules for Dragon, Dwarf, Elf, Giant, Goblin, Human, Ogre, Orc, Pech (Halflings), Treant, Lizardman, and Unborn (Warforged, Golmens, Clockwork Men, etc) PCs.

Gen Con

Does anyone know for certain if the book will make it to Gen Con? I've been looking forward to this for a long time and I hope I'll be able to pick it up shortly.

Still let me also say, as someone who buys PDFs and Crafty PDFs that $30 is waaaay too much for this one.

I wish them well, but print only for me on this one.

30 bucks is just to high a cost for a digital copy. I will never pay more than 20 bucks for a digital copy of any book, and that's pushing it for me. 30 bucks for vapor, in a sense, is just to costly to the pocketbook in times like this.

my point is we should only compare all in one corebooks which contain a player's guide, dm guide and a monster manual and release prices.

Nah, I think we should compare all the core rules pdfs we can with current prices.

When I spend my money on pdfs I consider topic, my interest, contents, system, and price. Whether it came out last week, 1 year ago, or 4 years ago does not really matter to me personally as a consumer.

To each his own, I was just pointing out it's not out of line with other options, Pathfinder is just priced really, really low. There will most likely be a pocket version at some point, which will drop the PDF price if SC2.0 is any indication.

As for GenCon, there are no certainties. It may be there, if not Mongoose will be taking orders and the book should drop within a week or so.

Well if you change the criteria from pdfs over 400 pages and under $30 to all in one corebooks that narrows it down a little as pure campaign settings/adventure paths etc are no longer considered. If you ignore release date that still leaves us with

A Game of Thrones (d20) 500 pages $10. The deluxe d20 + Tri stat one is $25.

Spycraft 2.0 500 pages $20.

Stargate SG-1 488 pages $20.
--> is a scanned book not electronic format

Exalted 2e 400 pages $20.

World of Warcraft RPG 400 pages $20.

And one I forgot to enter earlier:

Deathstalkers II 680 pages $9.

And if your only criteria is all in one corebooks without limiting it to 400 pages then you have a ton of comparison options.

Voadam,

The price comparisons I presented were intended to be illustrative, not argumentative. If you think the price is too high for the PDF, then by all means wait for the hard copy. In the meantime, take a look at the preview PDF and the art samples, and post any questions you have about the game.

I'd like to try and keep the thread constructive and helpful rather then have it devolve into another threat on PDF pricing and economics. There's enough of those as it is. :D
