FAQ - Frequently asked questions.

I was thinking of starting up an FAQ, with common questions that are asked, as alot of the questions that get asked her come back over and over.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for this? I was thinking of just reading the posts in the forum and adding them in below. If anyone wants to suggest them they can, and if all goes well it might get stickied.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q: How do you Pronounce FAQ

A:You have four main options here; you can pronounce each letter itself, as in Eff-Ay-Queue. The Second option is to just say Fack, probably less formal but harder to understand. You could just say 'Frequently Asked questions', but then whats the point of abbreviating it? The forth, and usual standby of most D&D gamers is to pronounce just as you would for the word Fnord.

Magic

Q: How are minimum caster levels determined? Is the listed one a prerequisite?

A: This is iffy. [opinion]I would say that they must qualify to have the feat that allows them to create the item, and to cast the spell[/opinion]. The facts stand that the DMG does not catogorically say that the listed Level must be met, however some people have infered this.

For a better idea on both sides of this discussion look at:
This link
And this one

Q: Does an empowered Magic missile do (1d4+1)*1.5 or (1d4*1.5)+1?

A: Given that it's in the description of the Feat it should be easy to tell, either way for further comfirmation, look no further then : here

Feats

Q: Is a monk with improved unarmed strike eligible for the Improved natural stike ability.

A: The PHB says that "A monk’s unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons." But the improved natural Strike is Feat from the Monster manual. Look at these links for more....

And over this way

Q Can you use Manyshot and Shot-on-the-run at the same time.

A The Manyshot Feat says it is a Standard action, and you can only take Attack Actions (which are a special kind of Standard action) with shot on the run.

[bq]No, you cannot use Shot on the Run and Manyshot together.
It is true that there is no category of actions called “attack actions” in the D&D game, but here is an action called attack—it’s the first action described under Standard Actions on page 139 in the Player’s Handbook. It might seem that the folks who say no Manyshot with Shot On the Run are slicing the baloney a little thin, but the letter of the rules is on their side, and so is the intent behind the letter of the rules. The Manyshot feat description could say you fire multiple arrows with the attack action, but it doesn’t. Manyshot is a standard action, not a variant on the attack action (see the feat description on page 97 in the Player’s Handbook). Likewise, the Shot on the Run feat could allow you to make any kind of ranged attack while moving, but it doesn’t. When using Shot on the Run, you must use the attack action with a ranged weapon (see the feat description on page 100 in the Player’s Handbook). This rules out using spells, most magic items, or special standard actions such as the Manyshot feat when making a Shot on the Run. That’s because casting a spell would require the cast a spell action (described on page 140 of the Player’s Handbook), using any magic item except for some use-activated items would require the activate magic item action (Player’s Handbook, page 142), and, as already noted here, using the Manyshot feat is a standard action. Most magic weapons are use activated and don’t require any action to
activate at all (see page 213 in the Dungeon Master’s Guide), so you can use these weapons along with the attack action. For example, you could use a +1 longbow or +1 arrow (or both) with the attack action, and thus you also could use these items with Shot on the Run.[/bq]

The caster-level-for-magic-items topic seems to be the most revisited, with the is-Improved-Unarmed-Strike-a-natural-attack topic ranking second. At least, that's my experience.

Improved Uncanny Dodge vs. Feint
Rapid Shot + Manyshot
How do hydras make attacks of opportunity?
Why doesn't Scout get disable device?
Can a prone character be tripped while standing?
Do mirror images gain the benefits of other defensive spells?
Do you roll randomly when attacking a grappled target?
Stacking multiple rays of enfeeblement?
Sneak attacks + rays
Flurry + TWF
How fast do you fall?
Is poison evil?
