As Ravenloft is a slightly different game than normal 3e, my class selection for it tends to be a little different. Wondering if it's commonplace, and if so, what's your fav class?

Normally I would play a wizard, but in Ravenloft, I think a cleric would be more fun.

Ehh, call me shallow, but I've always preferred rangers (next to rogues that is.) I also like some of the things they do with the druid in Ravenloft... Then again, how can you not like druids? They're so.... tree-huggariffic.

Yeah.. It's gotta take some marbles (or a sub-average wis or int ;) ) to play a Paladin in Ravenloft :)

(or other really-good characters, but paladins especially. good clerics rank right behind them in my opinion tho)

"Whaddya mean they just run away? They're supposed to go *poof*!"

Well...

I've never played in Ravenloft. I've only ran the campaign (those were good times). If I were to play, though, I would play a Fighter/Rogue ot emulate a undead/vampire slayer. I just have to go for the young Van Richten feel.

Well, seeing as how I'll soon be playing a Psychic Warrior in a new Ravenloft campaign, I'll go with the Psychic Warrior.

Paladin is great, too. And unlike 2E, it's no longer suicidal to play a Paladin. The 2 big detriments were that lame Aura of Protection, which really DIDN'T provide all that much protection for the disadvantage it gave you of evil beings within the 10' radius sensing the aura and being able to identify it as coming from you.

Second, Darklords don't automatically sense you, anymore. They get one scry attempt per day and the difficulty is pretty high. Though it gets lower as you go up in level. So a Darklord is much more likely to spot a 10th level Paladin than a 1st level. But even then, they only get general area (on the Svalich Road, on the Luna River, etc). Only with an extraordinary success can they narrow it down, and that's to a 100-foot radius.

So Paladins' are MUCH more interesting to play now in Ravenloft than they were, before. And not nearly as suicidal.

I, too, think the rogue is the best suited for Ravenloft. Skill points and the desire to note confront things face to face are very beneficial.

Thaumaturge.
