Ditto. Buffets are awesome! :D

My wife hates buffets. She grew up in a house where if the food was not screamingly hot soemthing it was unacceptable. We hardly ever go to one. Especially no asian ones.

I'm kinda partial to lesser known fast food. Which is good since I have one kid who only eats at restaurants if the menu is above the cashier.

I love Whataburger or Steak 'n Shake, and I'll go there any day over Mickey D's or Burger King.
Favorite mexican is Taco Bueno and Chipotle. When I went to Chicago a couple of months ago we ate out at Italian and Greek resturaunts, but on my night off from the group I pigged out on three Chipotle soft tacos and a beer.
I like (some) Panda Express over other hole-in-the-wall Chinese, and Pei Wei's Orange Peel Chicken.

I miss Indian food and haven't eaten it in years. Sushi though I'll eat once a year.

Well, it is true cold country buffet usually only has lukewarm food. Also I love buffets, but i am pretty acclimated to questionable food. I have had times when a friend went with me to the buffet and ate the same things, they got food poisoning & I got just an upset stomach. So be sure to use your discretion when selecting entrees. Work yourself up to a cast iron gut before eating buffet quality* sushi.

My favorite place to eat is the local Cracker Barrel restaurant in Holyoke.

Mmmm, Cracker Barrel! White meal! (Country-fried steak, mashed potatoes, dumplings...)

One of my new favorites is CiCi's Pizza Buffet. It's all-you-can-eat pizza, salad, and pasta, for about $7. And, they've got some funky pizza renditions (I love the Buffalo Chicken pizza; my wife loves the Macaroni & Cheese pizza). They're a chain, that's just entering the Chicago market.

Interesting to see several folks from other areas of the country mention Chicago-style pizza. The originator of the genre, Pizzeria Uno, is three blocks from my office; I don't get there enough. :)

If money's not as much of an object, my favorite restaurant is Mon Ami Gabi, a French-style bistro near us. I'm mad for the steak au poivre and frites.

We just got a Chipotle not far from out house. Its great. The manager said current plans were to open one more near the University of Alabama and thats it for the state.

We also have Chicago style pizza at a place called Tortuga's. Its authentic, the owner used to runa pizza place in Chicago and moved to be with his grandkids.

Its funny to see people rave about Cracker Barrel, to me it is just OK. But its food I grew up eating and when I go out I typically want something I couldn't or wouldn't cook at home (or don't want to take the time to cook). We only go because they have opened one very close to us and its an easy choice when we cant decide what we want to eat. Overall for that kind of food there are pleanty of better places around these parts to eat - although some of them are mainly open just for lunch.

Favorite used to be a local joint called Jake's, but their food took a bit of dive earlier this year. Don't know why; might have been a new cook or something. We probably ought to give it another chance.

'Til then, we've switched to another local joint, the Ivy Tavern. Awesome food, though the portion size is way too big!

As far as the national chains go, nothing really thrills me, although we've been hearing that Red Robin is supposed to be really good and one has opened kind of near us. (OK, about 35 miles away).
