Historical mystery. At least that's what I seem to read most these days. Science Fiction has gotten too weird for me, Fantasy has gotten too Jordan-esque. All my favorite authors started writing that stuff because it sells better, instead of the quirky offbeat stuff. (Except Glen Cook, thank goodness).
What exactly is Jordan-esque? I could make a guess, but I'd rather not have to. [I haven't really paid much attention to those threads containing debates on authors]
