Without a multiple choice poll I can't vote honestly.

Troughton, Pertwee, Davison, and McCoy were all excellent in their own ways and I simply can't pick a favorite from among them. I waffle back and forth about how much I like Tom Baker. Aside from the very first episode, I don't care for William Hartnell. Colin Baker annoyed me. Paul McGann wasn't around long enough for me to have an opinion of him, and I haven't seen Christopher Eccelston yet, although he loses major points for quitting so quickly.

Same here, I like Baker, Davison, McCoy and McDann. Baker probably tops but the others are good. I watched most of there stuff and not so much Troughton and Pertwee thats why I picked the four above. Although I like others have just seen the one McGann show.

You'd be hard-pressed to see more than the one McGann, since that's the only time he did it. The thing I hated more than the terrible job Eric Roberts did pretending to be the Master, as Rackhir so aptly puts it, is that they made this whole 'the Doctor is actually half-human' nonsense. Feh.

Like most people, I voted Tom Baker. If more of Doctor #2 had survived, though, I might give him a nod, actually.

Collin Baker was the worst. Ick!

Though I didn't like him much as the Doctor I was probably watching more for Peri (Nicola Bryant) at that time. ;)

I think I'd have to place them in the following order, favorite to least favorite:

Tom Baker
Patrick Troughton
Jon Pertwee
William Hartnell
Colin Baker
Sylvester McCoy
Peter Davidson
Paul McGann

I haven't seen any episodes of the new Doctor Who series, so I can't rate the newest Doctor. Incidentally, I've personally met Doctors 2-6 (at Doctor Who conventions), and since attending Doctor Who conventions in 1983 - the 20th anniversary of the show, when there were tons of conventions in the Chicagoland area - were the "first dates" (in hindsight) with the woman who would later become my wife, I can honestly say that I owe my marriage to Doctor Who!

I liked Pertwee and Tom Baker in their time, if you'll pardon the expression. But I didn't enjoy any of their successors' treatments. Until now. I think Eccleston is simply the best yet. And I don't blame him for quitting the show already. I've seen him in a lot of stuff and he's a very, very good actor. Playing the Doctor for more than one season would have typecast him. The plus side is that the reason Eccleston wanted to play the Doctor in the first place was because Russell T Davies was writing the show and he's annoyingly talented. From what I hear, Davies will be working on the second season and the Beeb have a couple of interesting actors in their sights to replace Christopher Eccleston.
