feelings and thoughts on Psionics

I would like to know your feelings on psionics

I'm ignoring all the post in between the first and mine as I don't have the time to read through all that discussion.

The biggest problem with Psionics its that it easier to abuse considering the effort. It's all in one book where most other powerful builds require many sources (discounting books that just compile other books into them) and it is easier to deal with them. Granted now with the net no one really goes through sources anymore looking for the awesome combos they just steal them from on line discussion groups.

Psionics have always been an add on and always felt like it. Either the rules treat it differently and not in a good way or they treat it the same and it becomes too much like magic and boring. There are always books and attempts to make them better but they always seem to fall flat in not taking the concept far enough or changing it so much that the original game material becomes near useless.

Tell you what, you make the most broken psion you can think of using XPH material, I'll powergame core sorcerer, and I'll have a friend bring in an extremely well built core wizard, and we can compare cheese levels and how much pain we can inflict on our enemies.

I warn you now, I will be making full use of PAO, Shapechange, and Planar Binding.

Can we stay away from the threats and bigging up please :) everyones view is valid here, if its not then these people wouldnt post and we could be missing out on a great new mind on this forum.

I agree it has aways sort of felt like an add-on but then I think its always going to just as 'tome of magic' does in some ways as it is an add-on (ie its not in the core group). I think the balancing act these guys play with new suppliments is very hard as you have so much material to balance against, I have always felt that everything should be balanced to the core classes and rules. That way you always have a base line to your designing.

Anyone have any more thoughts on the feel of psionics since 2e Ie itd diffrent than magic or its an extention of magic?

Do you calibrate using the Monk or the Druid as the baseline?

Core's pretty unbalanced. It has some of the most powerful classes in the game right next to some of the weakest.

Aside: No, not every point of view is valid. I'm sure you can think of examples of points of view that are not valid so I'm going to leave it at that.

No, I disagree.

Every point of view is valid. I am assuming that point of view and opions are the same in this context.

They may not be true or factual but opinions are always valid since they are "opinions" and not statement of fact.

It is like saying all fiction is worthless because it is fiction and by the definition of fiction it is not necessarily factual nor historically accurate.

Silence! My point is valid!

Isn't it more like saying that not all fiction has worth?

Either way, the statement "psionis is easier to abuse" is wrong because it is just as easy to abuse magic users to the same degree in core.

If your argument is the game as a whole is completely broken then that's true. But how easy it is to get that way is an opinion not a fact.
