Female Wizard, Male Druid.

Possibly...but one of my more recent groups had a 7/3 mix girls to guys. And one of the guys was EXTREMELY out of the closet.

He was also the only player who played cross gender.

Yes, but my observation is that girls who play D&D are generally physically repulsive or perhaps this is a stereotype.

~ I've got to say, this is a pretty repulsive and ugly comment you are making here - you should be ashamed of yourself. Have you any idea how many people you are insulting with your 'observation'? Try to be a bit more thoughtful: Plane Sailing, Enworld admin ~

Well, maybe more women don't play D&D because the guys they have to play with are themselves often repulsive, physically and mentally?
Though that, too, may be a stereotype.

Hey, let's be civil. Do not get on someone's case when they state their personal observation, especially when it's stated that it is his observation. You might have a different experience. That's fine. You do not call someone else stupid, and he did not insult your girlfriend.

Also, if you want to play D&D so you can go all Charlie Sheen on us that's fine, I guess, but it doesn't make you cool, and we're not impressed. I'm pretty sure that the majority of people here would place D&D above snorting coke, as it's a D&D forum and all.

As far as my group goes, I am hesitant to see players play across gender lines, but I don't forbid it or anything. I just have some players (one in particular) who would do things with the justification "because I'm female" and that is simply unacceptable to me. The players know they can play females if they want to, but I think they mostly stick to male characters since it's easier to connect with them mentally (which in turn makes roleplaying easier).

But, as always, play what you like :)

didn't say i was cool i said i wasn't your typical dnder. me and my friends started the game as something to do rather than sit around stoned watching tv we played the game. and had huge amounts of fun with it from pre teens in to our mid-20's.

it's been a few years and were about to start a new game yet again do the same stuff trade out the girlfriends for wives will be about the only difference.

It think this is also true to some extent although I would not say that all people who play D&D are this way.

It seems that the stereotypical D&D player is considered to be socially inept, usually a virgin etc. etc.

The question which I would like to ask is why does this stereotype even exist?

Why is D&D not considered an acceptable form of recreation as opposed to say sports?

Well, it is. Just to other groups of the population.

I know a lot of negative stereotypes about sport fans. They are probably a biger group when compared to the total population, but that doesn't make the stereotypes about them any more or less "accurate" than the stereotypes against other groups.
