Hey all,
So I'm collecting information for a statistics class and Sacrosanct's surveys looked pretty successful, so I thought I may look here for some numbers. Today we are discussing Fighter Martial Archetypes from the PHB. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

To date I've played 2 fighters in 5e.
The 1st was an Eldritch Knight. I was pleased with the outcome.
The 2nd fighter hasn't reached 3rd lv yet, so....

I’ve played all three and have been satisfied with all three. Really liked the champion and battlemaster, but my MEHish for the EK is more due to my meh of casters anyway.

I'd be interested to see how this plays out with a lot more votes. Hope it hits 100 or more. As it stands, it's not all that surprising that there is some rumbling that fighters are lacking. There's an awful lot of unsatisfied customers for each archetype.

Question about intent - are you looking for just straight-classed fighters, or also multi-classed fighters (who obviously are at least 3rd level to have a subclass so it's more then just a dip).

Good question. Um...

Let's say any Fighter including multiclassed ones, but judging purely on how your Fighter levels contribute to your character. So if you are a Ranger (Beastmaster) 7/Fighter (Eldritch Knight) 3, and you were unsatisfied mostly because you wanted a stronger companion, you can still give EK an upvote.

The Eldritch Knights have too little spell casting too late, so they're left with the combat cantrips (along with battle magic) and shield; effective, but not can get old. This is exacerbated by the fact that Evocation is one of their allowed schools, and it kind of sucks to be behind the curve on evocation spells: you end up bringing a knife to a gunfight. They would have been better suited, IMHO, to have Transmutation (instead of Evocation) with its enhancing magic to better compliment their fighting abilities.

For the results so far, a good solid quarter of all respondents did not like playing their fighter.

It would be interesting to see how this stacks up against other classes. Obviously, some people are going to simply not like the character. It happens. Not because the mechanics are bad, but, it just didn't fit well. Fair enough. But, I wonder if this is evenly spread amongst all classes.

Well the Ranger was the most popular class behind Fighter/Rogue/Wizard/Cleric and people were still unhappy enough with it for WotC to think they needed to do a revision. I also hear a lot of people complaining about Sorcerer's not having enough Sorcery points/metamagic and Warlocks being Eldritch blast machines- even though they totally love the fluff and concept behind the classes to the point where it's still their favorite class.

I have not played a fighter yet (I normally DM), so I have not voted. I will give meaningless ancidotial evidence, since I know of 5 players who have played fighters, and they were all very happy with their choices. I think Bladesinger was less exciting until SCAG came out, but the cantrips REALLY gave it the boost it needed.
