D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

Same reason DMs keep being weird about letting martials do even real-world achievable athletic tasks.

'uhh, a greatclub only weighs 10 pounds, it just seems weird to compare that to a giant's severed leg, man, I better stay on the safe side rather than let you get 2 extra average dmg'

You don't want to need DM permission for a core part of your (sub)class.
to be real, 10lb is too much for a melee weapon, even 2Handed, you would be so slow that anyone that has training would stab you 10 times with a dagger before you would make a full swing with it.

Why wouldn’t a 2-handed improvised weapon be comparable to a greatclub?
I suppose it depends on the weapon and how stifling the DM wants to be. A table leg would be a greatclub but they might consider something like the bard's lute to not do that much damage.

Regardless, its still not the most powerful option in terms of damage for the fighter.

table leg is closest to a baseball club, that is, a club, maybe quarterstaff for damage, so d6 max?

no matter, think now how fast would that halfling move a 3lb sword around.

So a Battlemaster uses Disarming Attack with the Push Weapon Mastery, that makes for a fun combination as the opponent's weapon is dropped and then they're pushed away 10 feet (but only 5 feet from their weapon). Even better if the battlemaster moves to the space where the weapon dropped and makes another push attack.
