D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

I like tactical mind and tactical shift, though I think the former should also be able to applied to an ally's roll, to reflect the fighter's tactical leadership.
That sounds like a subclass ability. Maybe for that dreadful Purple dragon knight.

not all fighters are leaders.

I specifically brought up the Jackie Chan ladder fight scene with regard to Weapon Mastery (amazing that he had the foresight to take Weapon Mastery for ladders that day!), so I'm gonna take credit/blame for the Brawler. I meant for them to give it to the Monk though.
Yeah, the Brawler at levels 7-17 looks like the "Go into the dungeon with your Reach Cleave-Push-and-Topple two-handed weapon and beat anyone who approaches to death; if they actually manage to close with you, use a bonus action to grapple them so you can strangle 'em while you beat 'em to death." (The bonus action unarmed grapple-or-shove and d6 damage to a grappled foe at the start of each turn at 7th, Advantage on the grappled foe at 10th, the d12 + Proficiency bonus damage on the improvised two-handed weapon and the ability to use two Mastery properties at once at 15th).

Yeah, I think people are underestimating Improvised Expert. A d8 reach weapon that can choose from cleave, push, or topple on each attack seems bonkers. Pun not originally intended, but I noticed it so I’m taking credit for it.

Do you have any evidence for any of this?
There is a heavy trend in the way and things Crawford, Perkins, and now Kendrick speak in all the videos. Since the TCOE videos into every single there is a trend of certain things coming up

  1. An overall shock and surprise in common issues found in games that do not follow the base assumptions to the letter
    1. We found that people feel forced to have a 16 in the their prime stat
    2. We found that people want to play race/class combos where the racial ASI are not a classes primary or secondary score
    3. We found that people think Monsters in the MM are bland?
    4. We found Warlocks don't have enough spells
    5. We found that Monks run out of Ki fast
    6. We found that Fighter and Babraians were weak out outside of combat
      1. We found that some groups can have sessions with no combats.
  2. Overall giddyness over unoptimized actions
    1. BRAWLING!!
  3. Overall hype of underpowered UA and playtest class features
I mean if you are commenting that in 2023 that you realize that some tables can go a whole session with no fighting, your table is not standard.

This is a problem,
no improvised weapon should be better than actual weapon that is designed for combat.
Even in the hands of Brawler.

What ever bonus you get with improvised weapon as a brawler, you need to get the same with actual weapon, if not higher.

Brawler only needs to raised improvised weapon from desperate solution to somewhat usable.

In short a glaive should be better than ladders in hands of a brawler, even if is just one step higher in damage.

That's not a feature worth anything. No-one is ever without some sort of a weapon (especially since any stick is a weapon-equivalent by the base improvised weapon rules already).

In short a glaive should be better than ladders in hands of a brawler, even if is just one step higher in damage.
And so they are. Brawler's improvised weapons still do improvised weapon damage - a large table still does a piddly d4. Because it is just such an incredibly terrible subclass.

Any warrior-type can do what Brawler does, better, from level 1, by having a Lance (reach, topple) and Halberd (reach, cleave) in their backpack.

I don't think the Improvised Weapon is a d8 unless your DM uses the Greatclub stats. Otherwise, its still a 1d4.

A very versatile 1d4, but not something you're using for maximum damage.
