Fighters are Weak? I think not!!

Figthers are weak?

Some of my friends and people i play D&D with say that fighters are weak because they only get 5 skills to chose from and feats arent that good?
I said " no " but what do you guys think.... are fighters to weak for some..... dose feats really make a difference ......?

i totally agree with you. if you know what you are doing when you build your fighter they can be almost "godly". i am still getting a bad rap for a fighter i build that was only tenth lvl and the only thing that killed him was a saving throw against a demon. i was actually black balled from playing for a while. now every dm i play with still questions all my characters and trys to kill them.

Yeah high level fighters are needed...if only to keep the Demon Princes from watching for those darn wizards and clerics.

I definitely don't think fighters are in a running for the strongest class (esp. at higher levels spellcasting gets the edge), but I think they are competitive at all levels. And they get comparatively stronger in campaigns which have a number of combats in a game day.

Fighters are not weak, but they are not as powerful as spellcasting classes at high levels. I'd definitely like to see a few more good high-level feats for them, but otherwise they're great.

Strength of fighters don't lie in 1-5 combats per day, but in 5-20 battles.

My experiences stop at 12th level till now, my current main group is lingering around level 8-10, 8 players with mainly arcane spellcasters, clerics and druids.

They do miss a tank even though one of the clerics has 115 hp and good AC. Their damage relies on spells... and I do like to have them waste all of them

Boy between this fighter thread and the wizard one, I find it extremely gratifying how quickly posters whip the thread into shape against the misperceptions of the classes being weak. Thank you 3.5 (at least as far as wizards & fighters go)

Fighters are strong enough, but I think they are a bit bland. What they lack is some special abilities, that are not necessarily more powerful than feats, but that would be really unique to them.
