Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

This is a New California Republic force from Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. In case you're unfamliar, this is a skirmish level game based off the Fallout computer games by Bethesda. I purchased these miniatures within the last few months and decided to finally get around to painting them. I tried a combination of regular painting in layers with the new slapchop method that the kids are into these days. I say new, but slapchop has been around for a while. Basically you have a dark base, dry brush a lighter color over the parts that stick out, and then put on a transluscent layer which automatically applies dark and highlighted areas in one go. It's not likely to win me any contests, but when you want to paint a lot of miniatures in a short period of time, it's good enough for table top standard.

I tired some a new product for the base made by Vallejo called Thick Mud. This is European mud. I really like it. They're not lying when they say it's thick. It'd be a bit pricy to use for a whole lot of miniatures, but for a few it's not so bad.

Oh, decals are new for me too. Im still trying to get the hang of it.

I am really hoping they come out someday with a Battletech theme plate of those image stampers folks are getting into. Its the same device folks use to put images on finger nails, but you can put smallish stuff with a stamper on your mini!

I bought a regular nail stamper from Amazon and have experimented a bit with those. There are a lot of nail templates that are entirely appropriate for miniatures with the biggest problem being finding the appropriately sized template. A lot of your smaller miniatures are difficult to use with the nail stampers.

There is a company out there doing mini scale stampers. They were not too cheap nor anything I wanted, but somebody is doing it.

Goblin Hobbies. I only got the idea because I saw Goobertown's video on YouTube. Instead of ordering their expensive template, I ended up ordering a stamp kit for about $20 which I thought was reasonable for an experiment. It turns out to work fairly well and it's a godsend for those of us who are never going to be able to reliably freehand simple designs. I might order one of their templates sometime this year.

There's actually a good amount of nail art that work with miniatures. I don't know what they're called, but they're kind of like little decals with little images people put on their nails. I've used some of that for shield decorations on minis.

If you have a recommend for the stamp kit id take it.
