It reminds me of old school miniatures from back in the day when someone sculpted it by hand rather than drafting it on a computer. It's pretty terrible, but that's what makes it so charming. For Christmas I got an 8 pack of orcs. The sculpts are pretty terrible, but I thought there was something appealing about them anyway, so I’m having fun painting them up. Here’s the first guy.
If one painted miniature is better than an unpainted one then a group of painted miniatures is even better! No matter our skill level, having a gaggle of painted models on the board just looks good. Here’s the 4 different sculpts mostly done. I’ll probably touch them up a little tomorrow. But they’re goofy and endearing and now that I painted them I’m even more fond of them. The simplicity is appealing for sure.

I loved the Ral Parthas and had dozens of them, way back when.I will always have a fondness for the old metal minis from the '70's and '80's just because so many of them had amazing levels of character to them in spite of how simple or bad the sculpts were.
(One of my if-I-ever-get-rich ideas is to acquire the rights to a lot of the old Grenadier and Ral Partha skeletons and update them to modern-scale printable .stls...)

I was 13 and got my first job as a dishwasher (made 3.85 an hour, under the table, ie tax free!!) and blew my entire first paycheck on D&D stuff. One thing I bought was a box of Ral Partha minis! I loved them so much.I loved the Ral Parthas and had dozens of them, way back when.
Photos???I collect the Official 2nd. Ed. miniatures as a separate hobby from my painting. My collection of loose miniatures from those lines takes up five of the old gray Chessex cases packed sometimes six guys to a single slot, and the ones still intact on cards occupy three medium-sized plastic containers in one of my cabinets downstairs.
