First-level Cleric Spells?

My current PC is a Warlock with one level of Cleric (Wee Jas), and the Death and Magic domains. I like the character, but I'm not sure what to do with his cleric spell slots.

I started out trying to use them for offense spells, like command, but my save DCs are low. We don't need much more healing, or minor buffs like bless, because the party also includes a full Cleric and a Mystic Theurge. I can't think of any spells that might actually come in handy.

So, in the grand tradition of dopes without ideas, I come asking the Internet for help. Anybody have some suggestions?

I'd focus on defensive spells for yourself, like Divine Favor, Entropic Shield, Sanctuary, and Shield of Faith. The other cleric in your party can cast the offensive and party-wide spells, so the only spells that you have that he can't cast on you are the personal spells.

The problem with 1st lvl defensive spells is that....well, they're 1st level. By the time you're at PC lvl 5 or 6, they won't matter much, and you'll have better actions to do during your round.

I'd see about dropping the cleric level.

Well, one spell, which is still powerful at higher levels is Protection from Evil.

Especially since the FAQ clarified, that all Charm spells are affected.

One of my favorite Cleric spells is from Magic of Faerun is called Wieldskill. It is a 1st level Cleric spell that, upon casting, grants the target (One creature touched) either a +10 competence bonus on a skill check of your choice OR proficiency with a single weapon (simple, martial, or exotic) or a type of armor (light, medium, heavy, shield). It lasts 1 min/level.

Unless you really, really love using divine and arcane wands, I agree with Nail. But if that were the case you would presumably know what your favorite low level spells are. In the long run you should be going with the UMD skill for diversity.

I would choose Bless.

Yes, you have other PCs who could cast Bless. If the combat is imminent and you have one buff round, the MT can cast Prayer and the full Cleric has an action to cast something even meatier.

Bless is still good when your party meets a really hard (high AC) opponents.

Hide from undead save you from really big and nasty non-intelligent undead (no save if non-intelligent). Some DMs (like me!) really like to apply Skeleton/Zombie/Living Fossil template onto big creatures.

Sometimes, one Remove fear changes the tide of battle. You can rally a panicked fighter without any rolls. Few months ago, one casting of Fear spell has almost destroy our entire party. All the members, except for my cleric and a buddy Wizard, start to run. If my Cleric had remove fear spell he could rally party tanks. But he did not have the spell that day, and had to fight alone against the villain wizard (the party wizard run away intentionally). He was lucky and won. But nearly died.

Edit : Oh! And don't forget summon monster I. A Celestial Dog can still run a corridor and trigger a trap.

I believe wieldskill was updated, in 3.5, to no longer be a general cleric spell.

Or give the rogue a round of nasty sneak attacks with a +2 to attack even.

Ok, I guess a Warlock has better things to do in a fight. :D
