Moriarty from AICN has reviewed the Punisher. And, since Moriarty is one of the few AICN reviewers whose opinion I actually respect, I decided to check it out.

For those who were fully expecting this movie to suck, it looks like your dire predictions could be wrong. Moriarty loved the film, and now I'm excited to see it as well. It's just too bad that the movie's release is nearly two months away.

The trailer looks horrible, and compounds this by being accompanied by blaring alterna-metal KoRn crap, rife with that annoying "cookie monster" vocal style that makes me run cursing for the mute button. What was wrong with the Dolph Lundgren 1990 version? Why "punish" us poor film-goers and comic fans twice? :p I'd much rather see a Mack Bolan "The Executioner" movie, which THE PUNISHER is ripped off from, anyway.

This movie opens the same day as Kill Bill volume 2. IMO I think that will hurt it. Two revenge movies opening the same day. I know I will enjoy the second part of Kill Bill, so I will go see that.

Trust me, the ones who couldn't stomach Kill Bill will go see The Punisher instead. I enjoyed it, but that was ONE DARNED GORY MOVIE. Some people like action, but won't enjoy Q.T.'s take on it a second time around.

Heck, I may not see Kill Bill in theaters, myself.

I'll be going the see the Punisher, but after the garbage that Kill Bill 1 was, I'm not going to see the second. I'm not even going to rent it on DVD. Bleh.

If my sources are to be believed (I've never seen it), just about everything. They did have the Punisher logo in there, though; and if you have a good freeze-frame, you can see it for half a second on the hilt of a knife as someone gets stabbed.

Perhaps someone wanted a more visually faithful adaptation...

Personally, I'm looking forward to it. My track record for actually seeing movies that I want to see is pretty poor, though. Sigh. I'll probably arrange to see it 'tomorrow' on the last day it's in theatres.

I'm not too thrilled that they took Vietnam out of the Punisher's back story.

Yes, Vietnam was a long time ago. Yes, it would mean Frank Castle is in his 50's.

Still it annoys me.

But not as much as when people take World War 2 out of Captain American's back story.

The Captain America character depends on World War 2. Frank Castle can survive without Vietnam.

I'll watch Punisher, but maybe not in the Theatres. I've seen the previous Dolph Lundgreen version.
