First time attending GenCon...what can I expect?

Are you going for the entire 4 days? Have you signed up for any games run by your fellow EN Worlders? Are you planning to attend the ENnies ceremony? I recommend you stop by the EN World booth and sign up for a few pick-up games. Many of them are full by now, but I know there are a few still open. Do that first, then build your schedule around that.

Save time for the dealer room. Bring cash, because you *will* want to buy things, and some of the smaller vendors don't take plastic.

Wall to wall geeks is a given, but, what else can I expect this weekend?

More than your brain can process all at once. Therefore, take small bites.

Spend two hours slowly strolling the dealer room. Leave, get a drink, walk the hallways. Look at people. See what they're wearing. See what games people are playing when they sit down next to the wall (hopefully) out of the way of traffic. Walk through the tournament rooms. Maybe a game will catch you eye that you've never seen before. Check out the wargamers and the awesome handcrafted battle environments. Go back to the dealer room; you only got through a third of it in two hours, so there's plenty more to see. After two more hours, swing by the ENnies table and check to see who's hanging out there. You'll likely meet someone from the boards, and they'll probably not look anything like you imaginged them.

Rinse, repeat. Above all, take it easy, and enjoy! Don't worry about filling the time - it'll pass super-quickly.
