D&D 5E First World: Possibly One of the New D&D setting?

Other option could be a new setting based in "shards" or fragments of the First World, a patchwork demiplane within the elemental limbo, adding a lot of thigs from "Councyl of Wyrms" and some pieces of Mystara Hollow World spin-off. This could add enough space and "hunt territory" for all dragon species and even future new kaiju monsters.

Time travel is canonilally possible in D&D but they are extremely rare because the cosmology could be too easily altered. If WotC wants to recover the chronomancers then they will need a lot of time and work to understand how the future metaplot could be affected.
Why does that matter, though? Whether time travel is rare or common, the DM can make sure it's accessible to their players. And if those players go back and alter the fundamental nature of the multiverse, that doesn't affect anything outside of their home game. It's not like it'll require WotC to re-write all their setting books every time some PC goes back and steps on a primordial butterfly.

The time travel is totally different in the TTRPGs because they are harder to be controlled by the DMs.

And they tend to give DMs headache.


DM: "the king of Breland is considering going to war with Aundair"
Players: "let's kill him, we are advocates of peace among nations and the death of one is just if it prevents the death of many!"
==> Cool story.

DM: "the king of Breland is considering going to war with Aundair"
Players: "let's cast a curse of sterility upon his father before he was born, we are time-travelling advocates of peace among nations and we'll do everything to avoid a single death!"
==> DM can get a drink and weep.

Yeah, but

Players: "We go back to the time before the multiverse was created and fight gods and monsters."
==> DM can pull out any setting he likes to run next, and claim it was the result of their shenanigans in the before-times.
 

- We traveled to the past to save the poor kitty within a box from that horrible Schöringer's experiment with poisonous gasses! But something happened we couldn't guess.

- Then is the kitty alive or dead?

- Oh..... we could say both, and very agressive.

It is not only the metagame effects (Why not to avoid Strand to become the first vampire or killing Rajaat to avoid the cleasing wars in Dark Sun?) but it can alter the metaplot of the multimedia franchises, what happen with novels or comics?
 



To venture my opinion, the OP is correct. Foreshadowing a new setting makes sense.

I would see it as an apocalyptic points of light setting, with a few surviving enclaves in a wasteland created by the global thermonuclear war of the gods.

This might be where those fey hobgoblins come from.
