Fishers find CR10 Squid!

I'd probably follow the lead of the megalodon and call it "Mesonychoteuthis" if I were to stat it up.

I love this line from the article:

If calamari rings were made from the squid they would be the size of tractor tires, he added.

Mmmmmm......

And that would make it indistinguishable from normal calamari how?

It's all about the batter. Deep frying just about anything makes it tasty. ;)

Fitting the "truth is stranger than fiction" department, this thing is longer than the description of the Giant Squid in the Monster Manual, and not that far off from the friggin' Kraken! (Minus the ability to control weather, of course. ) So it's bigger than a Giant Squid, but smaller than a Kraken, what would you say this thing is? CR 10? Maybe 16HD? Or should it be a new creature entry, the "Colossal Squid" (that isn't really Colossal?)

It's not a squid.

It's the head of a mutant mind flayer god-king from deep beneath the sea.

:uhoh:

Sure, I can wrap tractor trailor tires in bacon, batter them, deep fry them, and dip them in melted butter...

...but that doesn't make them any easier to chew.

It depends greatly on how fresh the squid/octopus is... The best calamari I'd ever had was at the Pike St. market in Seattle. Fresh off the boat, and sliced, battered and deep fried fright in front of us. They tasted delicious and were perfectly tender.

Most of the frozen calamari you get in restaraunts or the grocery store is like trying eat deep fried rubber bands.

There seems to be more and more reports of colossal squids nowadays. I wonder if it's a Cthulhu or a climate thing?
Might be a connection between ever dwindling fish populations, increasingly aggressive trawl fishing, and giant squid caught in nets.
