There seems to be more and more reports of colossal squids nowadays. I wonder if it's a Cthulhu or a climate thing?

Didn't Al Gore say something about Global Warming releasing Elder Evils? I wasn't paying attention.

Grargh! They were catching Patagonian toothfish at the time -- that's the definition of 'unsustainable fishery', since the fish takes over a decade to mature.

Public service announcement from a fish guy: Try to stay away from "Chilean sea bass"/Patagonian toothfish on the menu. There's plenty of other seafood to eat from more sustainable sources - Alaskan salmon, for instance.

Freakin' cool squid though.

On a slightly more serious tangent: It makes one wonder what's going on in the environment that the squid should be making its presence known at all.

On a slightly less serious tangent, I have a couple theories:

1.) Atlantis and/or Mu are about to rise from the depths, thus displacing the deep denizens.

2.) The Sci-Fi channel must pay for "Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep"

Also, now that we've seen one, remember...

"There are always two, a master and an apprentice."

Fear the master.
