Flanking and Reach Questions?

Can you flank someone with a 10' reach weapon?

Does having a reach weapon mean that you threaten more squares around your character?

Is there a weapon that threatens 15 feet?

Can you flank with a bow?

Thanks,

Flanking you need to threaten them on both sides so you can flank with a reach weapon.

yes because the outer ring is bigger than an inner ring. A reach weapon does not usually threaten the first 5' normal threat area however.

Huge reach weapons threaten 15'

You cannot flank with a missile weapon outside of special prestige class abilities.

Yes, you can flank with a reach weapon. Look at the back of Song and Silence for details.

Having reach means you threaten squares further from you, though not necessarily more. Generally, if you have a 10' reach weapon, you no longer threaten squares next to you, unless the weapon specifies otherwise.

I believe a whip has a 15' reach.

You cannot flank with a bow.

Ok if an opponent moves through the outer ring of a character with a reach weapon to attack him, what happens?

Is there an AoO?

Yes. Stepping into the threatened area (say 10' for a 10' weapon), there is no AoO. But moving an addition 5' to get next to you would provoke an AoO because he would be moving through a threatened area.

Yes.

Attacks of opportunity from movement are provoked when you move out of a square that they threaten. ASCII diagram

X - Empty Square that G threatens
A - Adventurer
G - Giant with 10' reach

When the character gets here in his movement, he is threatened by G. If he continues his movement, he would be moving out of a threatened square, provoking an attack of opportunity.

I thought he didn't threaten the inside ring...

I'll try a map...

O are spaces
X is the character with reach.
B is the badass trying to kill character X

OOOOO

OOOOO

X threatens all the of the outside ring of spaces including the one B stands in.

So when B moves to his current position no AoO.

When he moves 5' towards X, what happens?

Is the AoO because he left the first threatened space or is it supposed to occur when you enter a second threatened space?

Spiked chain the new rogue weapon of choice. I flank you at 10', so there is a reduced chance of me being targeted for retalation, and if I am targeted I get an AoO(which will be a sneak attack as you move), and I might be able to flank multiple people at once If the party aranges themselves right.
