Flurry of Blows

First Post
With a flurry of blows, is it possible to use the Two-handed weapon feat with the flurry of blows? I have a lvl. 11 monk, and with the flurry of blows, I can atk. 5x, and I was thinking that if I weilded 2 kama, I would deal more damage. I asked my DM, and he didn't know, so does anyone here?

Thanks, _magnus_

By the spirit of the rules, no, a flurry of blows represents the monk striking quickly with every tool available to him. If he had a kama in each hand, the flurry would include attacking with both of them.

By the letter of the rules, yes, you probably could. You won't do more damage, though. Kama do less damage than the monk's fist by that level. The two-weapon fighting penalty drops your (already somewhat low) attack bonus even more, further reducing your average damage. You would do better to flurry with an empty hand, it's the most cost-effective damage a monk has, and sink your magical item money into AC items and stat-buffing items.

According to the Players as long as you are using a Monk weapon you can
attack with weapons as part of the Flurry of blows. It says you can add
your Str. bonus to the damage. See Pg. 40-41 of PHB 3.5.

It depends.

You see, when making attacks using the monk's flurry of blows, a monk can't make off-hand attack, because a monk attacking unarmed or with monk weapons doesn't have an "off-hand." You can, however, interchange any flurry attack with a weapon. So, let's assume you have 4 attacks once you activate your flurry, and you're holding two kamas. You can attack:

Kama 1
Kama 2
Kama 1
Kama 2

--or--

Kama 1
Unarmed Strike
Unarmed Strike
Kama 1

or any combination of unarmed strikes or kama attacks.

Unless, of course, you decide to read the FAQ, which states that even though a monk attacking with monk weapons / unarmed strikes / flurrying doesn't possess an off-hand, he possess an off-hand, and can duel-wield.

Yeah, I wrote that correctly. I think. :)

Not quite...

"There is no such thing as an off-hand attack for a monk striking unarmed."

There's no prohibition on off-hand attacks for a monk who isn't striking unarmed... for example, using monk weapons.

I tend to explain the FAQ answer as "There's no such thing as an off-hand attack for a monk striking unarmed, unless he elects to strike unarmed as an off-hand attack."

-Hyp.

According to the FAQ yes you can (and I happen to agree with that FAQ entry, even if it is poorly explained ;) )

Things to remember when mixing Flury of Blows with TWF
-The penalties stack
-You must use only unermed attacks or special monk weapons, even your off hand weapon must be one of these.
-You keep your off hand weapons seperate from your other monk weapons. For example, say you have one kama. Normally in a FoB you could mix and match unarmed strikes and kama strikes as you see fit. However, say you want to FoB and TWF, you decide that your kama is your off hand weapon now. You may now use the kama to make your off hand attacks and only your off hand attacks, you may not use it as part of your FoB attacks.
-Your off hand attack recieves only 1/2 Str bonus as normal for off hand attacks instead of full Str as is usual for monk attacks (this is the reason for seperating out TWF weapons as I said above)

Hope that helps.

Alright, thanks guys/girls.

I think I got everything everyone was trying to tell me. I might have missed something, but that doesn't really matter, becasue I got the gist of what people were trying to tell me. Thanks
