Firstly,
Thank you so much for this tool. It is absolutely amazing... for what you are able to do with it.
The biggest complaint I have is that you cannot do a custom class (and before people start jumping down my throat with "READ THE FAQs" or "search the thread" hear me out because I've done both).
Yes, I've read the FAQs for the sheet... and want to know what they say? "No (work around using custom sub-class may be possible, but specifics will be your responsibility)"
So, what I am asking isn't if the functionality is there, obviously it's not... What I want to know is why its not there and if there are plans in the future to add this feature (the last time this question was asked was a while ago, things change.)?
Right now, if you have anything custom with a class that doesn't use a conventional class base, you can't use it. And the proposed "workaround" means I might as well use my own character sheets rather then a character builder.
If the ability to add a custom subclass is there, then the ability to add a whole custom class should be there as well. Limiting it the way you have makes it feel like you are anti-homebrew/custom class.
I completely understand that development takes time; however, this is a feature that I see people asking for over and over from you. It honestly surprises me that with a feature so requested your answer is simply "No." Tying the cells together for a custom class requires a lot of Excel programming and I realize why this may be difficult to accomplish, all I'm pointing out is that for almost 2 years people have been asking and there has been no progress I can see towards this (based on forum posts).
One easy fix you might consider to allow more customization options without having to add a full on "custom class" section would be to use the subclass options you already have but instead of pre-determining the levels you get a special feature based on the root class, you allow for input of custom levels. This would make the proposed "workaround" for using sub-class to create custom classes WAY more functional and user-friendly. Having the levels pre-determined based on the root class seems to me, based on what I've tried, to be the biggest hindrance to using the proposed sub-class workaround.
Once again, I really love this builder. I love all the work you've put into it and the fact you are continually working on it. Even if you don't add the custom class options, its still a great builder for use with all the base classes (it makes managing all my normal characters so simple!). I hope you at least seriously consider what I've suggested for the custom-sub-class work around or at least offer some more explanation as to why a most requested feature is not being developed. Thank you for your time and the amazing tool you have developed.
P.S. Another suggestion might be to have instructions available on how to utilize the Design Space in the latest version (2.0) to accomplish custom classes? I am not sure if it can be used for this since I'm not entirely sure what that page can be used for and the instructions for use sheet does not include anything regarding that page.
