D&D 5E ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

Love sheet but no damage resist, reduction or gear in 2.0 beat build 7?

What an amazingly great job! I wish I had your skills in Excel! I am using the 2.0 beta, build 7. But I can't figure out how to get some things to show up on the printed character's sheets.

  1. Gear such as tents, tender box, and the things in their initial packs (explorers, etc.) Where do I record them so they show up or do the character sheets not include these yet?
  2. Damage resistance does not seem to show up on the character sheets.
  3. Damage reduction does not seem to show up on the character sheets.

Sorry if these items have already been reported. I read a LOT of posts but there are too many to read them all. Is there a projected time frame when the next build will be out for the awesome 2.0 beta? Will any of these issues be fixed or am I just doing wrong? Thanks so much for time you've put in this already.

Firstly,

The biggest complaint I have is that you cannot do a custom class (and before people start jumping down my throat with "READ THE FAQs" or "search the thread" hear me out because I've done both).

Yes, I've read the FAQs for the sheet... and want to know what they say? "No (work around using custom sub-class may be possible, but specifics will be your responsibility)"

So, what I am asking isn't if the functionality is there, obviously it's not... What I want to know is why its not there and if there are plans in the future to add this feature (the last time this question was asked was a while ago, things change.)?

First, thank you for doing your due diligence. Because of the effort, I will try to answer your questions.

Second, the FAQ is my take on the responses FA has given since I started reading this on page 30-something (currently 231). A request was made a little while ago for 'the community' to help FA out by generating a FAQ because the same questions kept getting asked. FA has given his tacit approval for my efforts by creating the link on his home page, but he has never been directly involved in the FAQ data.

And now to the actual question.

FA has always has three rules he has observed throughout. I will address them one at a time.

No Macros. This is to allow use of the sheet over as many platforms as possible. Macros would make it much easier to code, but would limit the users to Excel. FA has repeated resisted the use of macros except for the Transfer Tool/ Import and the Reset as these can be worked around on other platforms. This has necessitated huge amounts of data to be buried, that the user never sees. FA has made direct access to the data as user-friendly as he can by the liberal use of named variables. So, No Macros.

Only WOC canon material in a published book. No UA or Third party data directly supported. FA has made the availability of the custom sheet to allow users to enter data from these sources, but he will not be including this in the base selections on the sheet. FA has been very good to keep up with the books' data as they have been published, but he has to draw the line somewhere and I for one am very thankful that he has given so much of his time to us already. IMHO, I think he has been more than generous.

Lastly, the reason for your post: No Custom Classes. FA has implemented many new functions throughout the history of this sheet: DesignSpace, Wildshape, Multiple instances of the custom content areas, Additional Custom Areas such as Sub-Class, Character Summary, Adventures Log, Familiars/Mounts, etc. Every one of these implementations takes time. FA has been adding them as he can while also maintaining the core material and being incredibly responsive to everyone's bug reports and suggestions for small content additions. He has said that he has considered Custom Classes, but the level of commitment to implement that effectively would prevent the other updates from being done. As the update to 2.0 has taken about a year, I would think that we might expect 3.0 sometime in mid to late 2018. It may include Custom Classes, but I am not holding my breath. This is totally my thoughts on the matter. FA please take it as such and do whatever works for you.

I have said this before and I will repeat it as many times as it takes to get the point across: THIS IS FA'S SHEET. HE HAS BEEN VERY GRACIOUS TO ALLOW THE REST OF US TO USE IT. Please, make all the bug reports you find. Make all the suggestions you think are appropriate, but, please, be respectful of the incredible effort FA has already put in to this sheet, and don't complain unless you are willing and able to take on the job.

On a personal note: I have been relatively silent of late due to the death of a good friend and major player in my gaming life. I apologize for the hiatus in the updates to the Instructions for Use. I will try to be more forthcoming with new content from here-on. If anyone thinks they can contribute, please PM me and we will bring you on-board.

Gear must be manually added to CSII from the pack details available on Start. Refer to the Instructions for Use Pg 15-18.

Damage resistance & reduction can be entered on Start - See the IFU Pg 11

Forged,

Good evening. I am working on a Firbolg character, and I noticed that their special abilities do not show up on the Active Features list.

Thanks for all of your time and effort.

Okay... first of all, I need to rant for just a second... why the [bleep] would the forums log me out for no freaking reason causing me to lose the long reply I'd already typed up and been working on.... AUGH!!

So, that being said, if my reply seems a little short its because I'm a bit aggravated at having to type it all again.

Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful explanation into my query. You explained much and the time you took to do so is greatly appreciated. I completely understand and agree with your statements about FA's work and generosity. This is by and far, in my opinion, the best character builder available and I am forever grateful I found it (and yes, even with the lack of customizable class, I still feel this way).

I completely understand how long development can take and appreciate your insight into how the time is being spent.

I am sorry for your loss. I have a lot of spare time I might be able to help out with the instructions sheets, but I'm unsure what help you might need.

Thanks for your reply and your time, sorry again for how short my reply is... it was much longer the first time :/

I was coming to ask almost the same thing as Lisa Geene (also having read the FAQ). I love this sheet and use it whenever I can. However, with not including Unearthed Arcana and not allowing custom classes, I won't be able to use this sheet for ANY of my 5e games (other than Adventurers League which I only play infrequently). At least locally in the groups I play in, it is becoming normal to allow Unearthed Arcana material (and one of the three allows some 3rd-party material). Specifically, for the games I'm currently creating characters for, I need the Awakened Mystic and Unearthed Arcana Ranger Revised - neither of which can be correctly represented in the custom sub-class tab (the Ranger Revised is close but some abilities have significant differences).

I really appreciate the work FA has done (I know how much dev work it is to do something like this). I also appreciate flwad's answering the question Lisa posed.

I just wanted to add my support for including either Unearthed Arcana or a custom class mechanism.

Question about items, using the beta build 7 i wanted to add a belt of giant strength(hill giant) i added the items in the charachter sheet II, but i wonder if i have to specify anything special to get the sheet add the str bouns or do i have to manualy add it?

Ps...sorry for my english :P

Manually. To have it handled automatically would probably require a macro, so that is not a desired option.

This is a bug that Forged knows about, I told him about it last month (I think). The custom spell is still there, you just need to physically type in the name on the Spellcasting sheet and it will show up on CSIII. Forged has found the bug and fixed it for the next update.

Thank you Dannyboy, Ashabel and FA for replying to me. I just wanted to make sure you to let you all know I appreciate your help and information. I am still greatly amazed at the amount of work put into this and look forward to future revisions as well. Please keep up the great work. The community here is very helpful and full of knowledge so this is great also. Thanks everyone.

Bug Report

1. In converting my druid from Beta 6 to Beta 7, I lost the one custom spell I had entered in the second slot. I think it reset to the spell in the sample. 2. Entering Custom subclass, tried to enter Heavy armor for a cleric sub-class. No change in Proficiency shown in armor on Start or on CSI. Entered in second column of Sub-class. otherwise good.
