Forked Thread: "The Death of the Imagination" re: World of Warcraft

I don't want to get into a big tangent, but what's your beef with Gardner? His perspective is well-regarded by many psychologists, especially those of a depth/Jungian/transpersonal orientation.
I think you answered your own question. And no, let's not get into a tangent about this.

As Ruin Explorer already said, I didn't say that. I did not call WoW players "morons."
*sigh* You said WoW causes the death of imagination. Can you honestly not see how that's a rather pointed implication that WoW fans have less imagination than you?

I mean, I get it that you've got this big passive aggressive streak that insults 4e, WoW, and who knows what else that you've shown a pattern of doing in thread after thread after thread here over the last week or two (maybe longer; that's all the time that I've been paying attention anyway) but please don't dissemble and say that you're not doing it, or do the "you're pointing words in my mouth; I absolutely didn't say that!" routine.

Of course you didn't say that exactly. That's the definition of passive aggressive, after all.

Hobo, are you the fellow that presumes to know more about what I feel than I do? If so, I have a hard time taking you seriously, especially after your ridiculous insistence that I hate 4E.

EDIT: I think the problem with your perspective on me, Hobo, is that you read malice where there isn't any, as if you expect the worse from people. If so, that is your problem, but again, if I say I don't hate 4E, why won't you believe me? HOBO, I DON'T HATE 4E!

Feel better now? :p

No, I'm the fellow that you presume is too stupid to detect a rather obvious repeating pattern of hostility in post after post after post that I've seen of yours recently.

I guess I called pretty well what your response to that would be too. :erm:

Read my above edit. I don't know why you have a beef with me or what I said to get you "on my tail," but lay off. I'm not the droid you're looking for, for chrissakes. I mean, unless you are a huge 4E and you are misinterpreting me as a 4E hater, I just don't see the source of your ire towards me

To put it another way, I think your "hostility detector" needs re-fitting. Or at least look up "projection" in a psychology textbook. Here, I'll do it for you:

So, you find it perfectly expected that you post things that are completely unsupportable and factually laughable and people call you on it.

Why post it in the first place then?

First of all, what I said has been supported by a few peoples' experience within this thread, as well as those of different educators, psychologists, and other theorists and philosophers. I am also going on my own experience with various media, especially television and, to a lesser degree, the internet. I am also going on other sources, educational theories, etc. So I am not just posting this opinion in a void.

But yeah, I am not surprised that there is resistance to this idea. What is surprising--well, not surprising, but disappointing--is HOW people react, how the resort to ad hominems as part of their disagreement. I mean, why not just disagree? Why go there at all?
