I can use a healing wand, if there is no one more suited than I., Artax volunteers.

(ooc: sorry for the delay, I expected to get more computer time this weekend than ended up happening)

As the group is getting aquainted, Jenrald enters the common room with an armful of small objects. He unloads them in a disorganized pile on the table, then begins to sort them out. "Well, this is all we could spare that would prove handy against the undead... You'll be able to buy more general supplies in the towns you pass throught to get to the Stonespikes. This is whats commonly called holy water," he sorts out nine small bottles with white caps, "Though some of the learners like to call it possitive energy water when they find they can make it even in a non devotional mood. It will do quite a bit of damage to an undead if you hit it straight on, or a little damage to several if it splashes them as a group. These oils," he sets aside three vials with purple stoppers, "can coat three small stones each. Any ordinary stone becomes a strong weapon against the undead when so treated, and you can either hurl them from a sling or just toss them at the creature. On the other hand, if you drink this liquid," two vials with black stoppers, "mindless undead will not be able to see hear or otherwise detect you as long as you do not attack them or use any magic. I was able to find two wands of healing. Healing for mortals that is, against those creatures animated by dark power, such as you will be fighting, it can do damage if you touch them. Neither is at full power, they were left here by journeyers who would rather carry a full complement. Each had 50 uses to start with, and there should be a scratch marked on the side for every prior use. Now unlike the potions and oils, these can only be used by those with the potential to cast the spell themselves. But the potential is all thats needed, so some of you may find that you can use these even if you currently have no magical abilities at all. Finally," he guestures to the final item on the table, a unremarkable looking daggar, "This blade was specificly enchanted to fight the undead. It is somewhat better than a normal knife in general, but against its intended foe it is quite impressive. We ask that this blade be returned to us at the completion of your mission, as unlike the others it was not meant to be used up in the field."

Artax whistles. "all they could spare", he says. To my eyes this is a quite a bounty. I pledge to use the items entrusted to me to the utmost. Now, to decide who needs to use what. Our members are Brother Eusebius, Myself, Rurik Axebender, Nodis, Skeeter, and Rainca. Did I miss anyone?

As far as I know I am the only one who uses daggers, so perhaps I could make best use of the dagger. I'm not trying to push others aside, correct me if someone else is better suited.

Also I could make use of one of the wands, hopefully there is someone else who can use one as well, please speak up if you can.

The oil I think should go to someone who uses a sling, and failing that the oils and holy water should go to those who have trouble harming the undead, so obviously anyone entrusted with the dagger or a wand won't need any.

I am willing to trust to my stalking skills to keep me unseen, so I have no need of the potions.

So in summary, I think I could make best use of the dagger and one of the wands. I'm hoping somewhere in what Rainca was saying was something about using healing so perhaps she could use the other wand. We could split the holy water and oil amoung Brother Eusebius. Rurik, Nodis, and Skeeter. And I don't really know what to do with the potions.

Eusebius moves over to the table where the magical items are displayed and examines each of them in turn. He then turns to the group and says, "I know of no way to utilize the wands - it is better that they are carried by others. I can certainly use the oils - I have a sling - so I will take as many of those as the party decides."

"As for the other items - I agree with Artax that it makes sense to give the dagger to one who wields it well. With regard to the wands, however, I must disagree. Since we are a large party with limited healing ability, it would be better to keep the wands for the succour of the wounded than to use them as weapons against the foul ones."

"As to the potions, I too have some skill in hiding and moving silently, so I will trust to that, and to my speed if I have to make a strategic withdrawal."

"I know what end of the dagger is what hurts" says Nodis. "And I could use a sling, or my crossbow (though I´ve never really used them). For what´s in the table, I´ll pick some of that water, they seem rather easy to use, and one potion would, er, make me feel safer."

The only weapons Rainca bears that Rurik isn't likely to have seen are the brace of kukri that she wears on her thigh, and a pale, ivory colored dagger bound to her arm. The spears, arrows and axes, while numerous, are rather ordinary - though very well maintained and decorated with Barav Kree designs. The young dwarf finds himself suddenly under the warrior woman's piercing, hawk's gaze when his curious eyes wander to the knife on her arm. She stares him down for a moment and turns away in a fluttering of sashes and a clatter of beads.

"Rainca admires Warrior Eusebius' integrity," the lean barbarian woman, sketches a brief bow, touching fingers to brow and chest, "And thinks that he will find he already knows The Laugher, but perhaps by a different name."

She reluctantly returns to the pleasant interior of the Mortalist's hospice. She climbs onto a chair in the corner, perching on the high back, her feet resting on the seat as Jenrald returns with a chief's ransom in magics. Rainca's eyebrows climb as she assesses the value of what he rather unceremoniously dumps on the table.

She catches Jenrald's eye and holds up her flute. She kisses it and holds it out to Jenrald, "Rainca's promise to the hoar-suns keeps her from offering more for the Mortalist's uru dey." She smiles, eyes bright and sharp, "She will return one day to settle the debt properly." Forestalling any argument with a sharp glance, she begins to play a mournful tune as the others sort who gets what.

"Rainca would ask for a potion or one of the curum sticks - healing wands."

She pauses thoughfully, "Amongst the Barav Kree," she begins again, not noticing the rolling eyes of many of the Hoar Suns, "The swiftest warriors are the bearers of healing magics," she raises her gaze to Skeeter, "So that they may quickly bring The Mother's touch to the fallen. Rainca would bet her axe," she pats the careworn hilt of the wicked battle axe hanging at her hip, "That she is the swiftest of the warriors here."

Her eyes fall appraisingly on Eusebius and she shrugs, "Though Rainca knows she is not amongst her people, and if there is other wisdom, she will listen to it."

Rurik returns Rainca's stare with a thoughtful, rheumy one of his own, making direct eye contact, before finishing the last of his 'breakfast.' Mentally filing away the image of the kukri for later at first camp, Rurik then helps himself to a holy water from the table, packing it away in a more 'protected' part of his pack.

"Rainca, I see the wisdom of the Barav Kree tradition - but tell me, what happens if you see a comrade fall, yet are yourself in the midst of battle with a puissant foe? How do you fulfil the roles of both warrior and healer?"

Rurik, bemused, lifts an eyebrow at the Barav Kree warrior in expectation of her answer.
