It might be pricy, but I've read that the DMG allows for items to boost a skill up to +30. So perhaps Improved Boots of Elvenkind? :)

The DMG allows for unlimited skill bonuses. For a mere 58,320 gp, a character with Dex 3 and no ranks in Move Silently could get a +50 check. :)

With Dex 20 and 13 ranks, a +50 modifier would require a +32 skill item, costing 20,480 gp (41% of the character's baseline).

My earlier comments were assuming no custom items allowed.

Here's the "Sage Response" you refered to:

*(long e-mail)

It was posted on April Fool's Day. If you still think it's legit, check out the facts of the letter yourself:

Yes, it was an April Fool's Day joke. I thought everyone would get it--guess not. To stop any further false rulings based off of this, I've included a disclaimer in the original post.

Happy practical-joke-free gaming, everyone!

How hard should it be for a level 10 Ranger with a +50 or so to hide and move silent to sneak past those NPC's?

And your DM thought that CDG was too powerful? He couldn't tell that it was your ridiculous skills check?

Bah, your DM will learn. We all make these kind of mistake, hopefully only once.
