FR Deity Question

Hello all,

Just wondering what everyone's opinions on what the best Forgotten Realms Deity for a LG Psion would be... I would think maybe Mystra or Selune (Shar, maybe) for their mystical attachments even though FR Psions draw from their personal weave and not the Weave (or the Shadow Weave, for those of that bent) and yet at the same time I can see how a Psion may have allegiance to someone entirely separate due to their non-reliance on the Weave (or SW). Just thought I'd bounce the question off the forum and see what answers resound.

I phrased the question here in standard FR Ground rules, those of us who DM with my home group all concur and use the Psionics is Different variant in our group because that's the way we've all always seen it. If that should make a difference in the answer as to which deity would be revered, I would be intrigued to hear those as well. Thank you for your time and consideration!

In response to sledged, no we are not, but that is due to group preference and may (or may not) be irrelevant to this particular question. While I can see the point of not using a magic related deity, Selune seems to be intriguing her and a potential choice. While she is related to magic, she seems to me to be, with her other connections (the moon et al.) to me more a reflection of the mystical, amazing nature of the world with Magic (noting the capital M) being but one facet of a deity who encompasses far more. At the same time however I hesitate to use her precisely because of her well known association to Magic with a capital M. I had also considered Oghma but was uncertain how well his complete neutrality would encompass LG followers... Some neutrals take an all-inclusive approach, while others approach it more xenophobically. (Which gets back to my difficulties with alignments and their interpretations in general... but that is a subject for an entirely different time and place!)

Other Possibilities

Depending upon how you build your psion, the Red Knight (LN) might fit, given the strategy and planning aspects to her portfolio. Also, Thoth (N) from the Mulhorondi pantheon might work, since knowledge and such is part of his portfolio (he's also obscure, which might be neat for a psion, himself obscure). Savras the All-Seeing might be another possibility. Divination is his thing, so if the powers of your psion lean in that direction, Savras could be a good choice.

Can you give us a little information on your character's attitude towards his own powers or how he intends to use them (divination, attack, defence et al)?

This can help us to find a deity that may fit with your personal dogma.

I second PaulKemp's suggestion for Savras though, it just seems to fit - having a third eye and all that.

Or, be from Hlondeth or some other Yuan-Ti area and worship Sseth (or is it Set now?) as the scaled ones commonly use psionic abilities.

Or ditch the God idea and be a githyanki refugee from the Astral Plane who still owes allegiance to the Lich-Queen?

I'm pretty sure that Oghma can have followers of any alignment and think he would be rather appropriate. I also think Savras might be approrpriate and may even start to seek to expand his portfolio to include this.

For one thing, one's patron does not HAVE to necessarily deal with one's class - it's more along outlook than profession. Selune is good, but if the character enjoys travel, Valkur or Shaundakul are choices. If focused on the aspect of personal improvement, Ilmater is a good choice (especially since Ilmater is LG).

If she really wants to blow the other players' minds, she'll choose Ilsensine, Illithid goddess of the mind, as anotehr poster suggested. :)
