FR: What's up with Lolth? (Spoilers, please)

Cthulhudrew said:
Lolth has an exchange with Errtu in "Siege of Darkness" (the prologue), where she mentions that she will be swept up in events, but she was referring to the Time of Troubles. She specifically makes reference to "A time when the gods will pay for their foolishness."

Now, how she knew about the Time of Troubles before it even happened, is beyond me. She doesn't have Prophecy as part of her portfolio...

I'm only familiar with the general outline of the Time of Troubles, but it would have been just like her to have put Bhaal and Myrkul (it was those two, right?) up to stealing the Tablets of Fate. Anything in Realms canon that makes this an impossibility?
(I seriously doubt it was intended like that, but speculation and conspiracy ideas are fun. :-) )

But how is that different than what I said? It makes Ed's comments online, or in person, a very low grade of canon. It's a bit like the Star Wars "Expanded Universe" or whatever it's called exactly. It's considered "canon"... until George Lucas makes another movie that invalidates portions of it.

That's a pretty insightful way of looking at it. It seems to be their way of somewhat giving him authority that has no real back-up to it, since I doubt anyone on WotC's design team is going to go searching through every interview, web blog, etc., that Ed has done to make sure they don't overwrite anything he's said. An example is his mentioning Mystra was the most powerful god having been long since overwritten.

Or a more likely scenario, Lolth had inside sources somewhere in Ao's court. Bane and Myrkul don't appear to be the ones sharing it, but it's possible Lolth either a) had a time traveling device. or b) had someone with better scrying skills on the alert about this.

*Just wish Orcus had been paying attention too before he died...but at least he's back*

Back to the lloth side of the thread. Upon finishing my groups campaign CotSQ, we were hounded by Kiransalee and her Revanents and her demonic minion and such. So we decided we would kill her if we could(we had all just hit epic) long story short. We found a sword that in game acted like a Vorpal sword but ignored any deflection bonus granted regardless of source. Because the deities are granted a deflection bonus of their Cha modifier this helped a lot. Maybe this is similiar to the books train of thought.

what a mess

back to my homebrew, a chosen-free zone

ah, toril. a neat place to visit, but i'd never want to live there.

They don't have to. Kuje seems to collect these so they only need to look at his site.

Well to back up Al here partly. There are things Ed has writen that TSR/WOTC has totally ignored over the years. :) So yes some game designers do ignore Ed's words and put thier material in the world over his.

Yeah, I know. :) As I said before, his word is only canon until WotC says otherwise.

My point was just that they can see what he said if they want to - not that they have to let it influence their decisions.
