Freeform magic/power systems

Nope, its skill based which I dislike.

That requirement being brought that to my attention, I am now confused. . . even the magic systems that you mention (such as Ars and Mage) are both skill-based. It's true that their powers aren't called "skills" but they function exactly same way as most skill-based magioc systems do (each "sphere", "technique", or "form" represents a specific aptitude, and ratings reflect specific knowledge of those things). :confused:

If you simply want magic systems that use skills but call them something else, Ars Magica and Mage would work fine for your purposes.. I'm at a loss to think of other systems that fit the bill, though. Or are you for a non-skill-based game that includes skill-based magic rules (albeit under the auspices of "spheres" or some such name)?
