Frenzied Berserker WTF

I'm nerfing my archer right now, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

Ripper, it might be cool if you start those kinds of sentences with "I think." That'll help avoid arguments from people who disagree. Thanks.

After I did 240 points of damage to a fiendish tyrannosaur in one shot, putting it down for the count, I'm considering doing just that, actually. True strike + called shot = hmm.

Called shot, Hong? I'm guessing a house rule?
Prestige class, actually. +3 damage per -1 to hit with a bow, similar to the frenzied berserker. The difference is it's only one shot in a round, not full iterative attacks. I also only ever made that one super critical: rolled lots of 19s to hit, but I wasn't game to get Improved Critical.

Interestingly, given the tyrannosaur's AC of ~18, the true strike was irrelevant; I'd have hit on a 2 even without it.

I'll probably switch the class over to deal extra dice of damage, like the OotBI (which is basically filling the same Zen archer schtick). Although since I've now retired from that campaign after we finished up the Bastion of Broken Souls, it's a bit moot.

What wizards have in mind when make the new Frenzied Berserker?

Supreme power attack with two-handed weapons deal 4 times the damage for each -1 in attack.

WotC figured out something obvious: munchkins spend money too. So, that's how we get this kind of class.

Except that any "munchkin" stupid enough to take this class will wind up killing off his party. It's not a very good PC option, more a BBEG fighter build.

I'd suggest knocking Improved PA down to +5 for every -2 to hit, and Greater PA down to +3/-1. That doesn't seem too bad to me; in fact, if you run the analysis, it's likely to lead to an FB Power Attacking for about -4 (+12 damage) against a foe of appropriate AC for its CR. Considering that FB is a melee class, that damage is the only thing it does, and that there are ways to counter this (using Combat Expertise will make PA a suboptimal choice even with these numbers, and there's that nifty new tactical PA-negating option), I don't think that would be too outrageous. Just IMHO...

[The other fix that is badly needed, incidentally, is for Deathless Frenzy. I'd suggest allowing it to function until the FB hits a negative hp total equal to his maximum normal hp (not counting rage or frenzy bonuses), at which point he be pushin' up de daisies.]

I just let the rules for Nonlethal Damage function as normal since I do not see anything in the Deathless Frenzy ability that would supercede them. (That is unless can scorn is taken to mean is immune to.)

I was thinking about the strangeness which is deathless frenzy the other day, and if I decided to allow the frenzied beserker as a class the way that I'd change this is to give the FB an additional 5DR while in a deathless frenzy. Thus to the peons he seems literally unkillable, but should he try it against an ancient elder wyrm then he's looking at splat city. i.e. the ability becomes beneficial rather than one which destroys my suspension of disbelief!

Cheers

Since when did Munchkins care about the rest of the party?
