I've been meaning to add a famous lone NPC adventurer to my campaign setting. He would be truly infamous, known for one minute saving a villiage from a deadly beast for no reward, only to slaughter the same villiagers the next day. Tales of his selfless deeds and horrendous atrocities would be told by bards across the land, and when the PCs finally meet him, he seems like a great fellow, probably a barbarian due to his recklessness, so they would travel with him for a while. Then, the fun would begin.

Ah, so Hercules a Frenzied Berserker all along!
