I like this. I hope there is a melee ability too.
The cleric from D&DXP had three at will attacks (two base plus one for being human, I think).
Lance of Faith: Ranged 5, +4 vs Ref, 1d8+4 radiant damage and an ally gets +2 to his next attack against the target.
Priest's Shield: Melee, +4 vs AC, 1d8+2 damage (weapon-based) and you and an adjacent ally get +1 to AC for one round.
Sacred Flame: Ranged 5, +4 vs Ref, 1d6+4 damage and an ally gets either 2 temp hp or a saving throw.
Some of you probably looked at me like I'm crazy cause of that comment. Well, ever heard of a war priest? Charge in to melee, give divine buff to myself and the front lines, and use my heals to make myself an unstoppable tank.
That's probably not exactly going to work. While the cleric is supposed to be decent in melee, fighting in the front ranks is not exactly his forte. Sure, he can get in some damage, but he is still a Leader character. His main job is to make the rest of the party better. One thing I really didn't like about 3e clerics was the amount of melee buffs the cleric had that would make him a better melee warrior than the fighter (
righteous might would be the main culprit here, but things like
divine favor didn't help).
Not sure they will. I can't find it now, but I'm pretty sure that clerics (and warlords) generally use second-rate armor like chain, leaving the really good stuff to fighters and paladins.
