Why would I wear radioactive briefs on a trip to the Astral Sea?
Because radiant = good, apparently. Silly people, reifying a misspelling of radiant = god into a topic of debate.

Prof: Here at ENWorld, the appropriate response to a suspected troll is to report it to the moderators, not to make the accusation in the forums.

Heh, got it.

I'm used to some more, ah, open ended forums, where the general consensus is to just give trolls a long enough rope to hang themselves with :D

Oddly enough, clerics with 'frikken laser beams' is one of the things I saw as encouraging.

I WANT to be able to play a cleric who doesn't wear armor, hangs back, and calls upon divine energies to turn someone into a shrub, blast another apart with holy power, and then heal is comrades.

That is a fine class idea. Its the clerics who fire laser beams while getting full armor for free that bother me. I don't have to wait too long now, and I'll get to see how all the powers balance out. But this seems like a decent at will attack on its own just the damage part, added benefits like temp HP or saves makes it seem really good. If clerics for free still get previous editions levels of tankage, I really want to see what the more girly man in defense classes get for offense. What will the strikers be dropping down in there at will offense to compare with this. I really hope there will be some really cool powers.

Well, one thing that intrigues me is some of the comments about using non-Dex bonuses to AC (like Int, maybe Wis?).

If the general design is that everyone CAN have a decent AC if they build that way, then allowing clerics to do so is no big deal.

We'll see, but I'm more heartened.

I like this. I hope there is a melee ability too. Some of you probably looked at me like I'm crazy cause of that comment. Well, ever heard of a war priest? Charge in to melee, give divine buff to myself and the front lines, and use my heals to make myself an unstoppable tank. I have the second best hp (I don't count barbs, cause they can spontaniously die when rage ends), I can weild decent weapons, I can wear plate, and in a pinch I can call down a napalm strike (yay flame strike!). What part of that doesn't sound like someone who should be able to stand their own in combat?

The cleric from D&DXP had three at will attacks (two base plus one for being human, I think).

Lance of Faith: Ranged 5, +4 vs Ref, 1d8+4 radiant damage and an ally gets +2 to his next attack against the target.
Priest's Shield: Melee, +4 vs AC, 1d8+2 damage (weapon-based) and you and an adjacent ally get +1 to AC for one round.
Sacred Flame: Ranged 5, +4 vs Ref, 1d6+4 damage and an ally gets either 2 temp hp or a saving throw.

That's probably not exactly going to work. While the cleric is supposed to be decent in melee, fighting in the front ranks is not exactly his forte. Sure, he can get in some damage, but he is still a Leader character. His main job is to make the rest of the party better. One thing I really didn't like about 3e clerics was the amount of melee buffs the cleric had that would make him a better melee warrior than the fighter (righteous might would be the main culprit here, but things like divine favor didn't help).

I can wear plate
Not sure they will. I can't find it now, but I'm pretty sure that clerics (and warlords) generally use second-rate armor like chain, leaving the really good stuff to fighters and paladins.
