Character Folders

I am re-organizing my D&D Books. In the process, I am going to clear a little shelf space and set aside some empty folders. If any of you would like, go ahead and use one of these folders to store a backup copy of your character, or even your current copy. As well, you can use the folders for any materials that you want to keep track of. That way, if you are in a rush and forget your character, you will still have a character sheet here to work from.

I like this idea. I'm always afraid I'm going to get to Albuquerque, and realize I left my character sheet in Socorro. Should be easy enough to scan and print an extra copy or two.
 

I know that Tyrm already has scars from crits and I plan on keeping them as part of his character. If we want to go with things a little more then just scars I am all for it.

Oh yeah, i'm all for wounding! Of course... i'll be one huge scar by the end of the game... but hey! It adds character!

If you break bones that often you should really consider getting out of the adventuring biz and look into something less destructive on your body. You might go for something like sloth herder.

For some injuries, magic might be enough. Other injuries require time, specialized spells and/or skill. I haven't looked at the book in detail yet so I am not quite clear on the specifics. The goal is to make combat have a little more of an impression. To make it a little more impressive to hang out in the tavern and show off where you are recovering from when that giant's maul snapped your femur, but you still fought on and won. Stuff like that.

As I said, it only has a possibility of affecting you on a crit. So this is stuff that comes up less often in combat. (Though Tyrm would have sucked it up pretty well with the Gnolls.)
 

Sanity

I am going to adopt the Sanity rules from Call of Cthulhu/Unearthed Arcana.

The basic premise is that there are some events/creatures/whatever that are so horrific that they begin to make you slightly unhinged. These things have a possibility of doing sanity damage to you. If you lose too much sanity too quickly, or lots of sanity in the long term, you might start to suffer from a psychosis.

This is not going to happen as often as it would in a CoC game and there are a variety of ways to recover Sanity. I just want to be able to replicate some of the dangers of the more horrific events that can happen to adventurers. I think this would have been a great thing to implement in the last campaign. Especially toward the end.

There are ways to recover Sanity. Mental health counseling, spells, Psionics, Psychics, special places in the game world, etc. The intent is to add a different type of threat, not set you up to have your character go insane and become an NPC every other month. So, don't worry so much about the mechanic. You just need to be aware that it is there. And if you do encounter a series of traumatic events, you might start losing your grasp on sanity. I am going to track the Sanity damage, so you won't be entirely sure how "safe" you are. It will be your responsibility to figure out if your PC needs to seek help. I'll try to do a good job making sure you get decent enough descriptions of any slipping sanity you might have to know if you should be worried.

For the record, your base Sanity score is your Wisdom X 5, with a maximum of 99. That is your base today. It will shift up and down depending on character events from here on out.
