..."Group of antisocialites"? Okay now isn't that statement an oxymoron? What the hell is that all about?...

Haha, yeh, that sounds like an oxymoron to me. The writer was trying to be witty, maybe.

My favorite gamer stereotype is the creative, passionate, smart, friendly, dice-loving stereotype. This is the most accurate one, anyhow, IMHO.

Overweight, sweaty guy
Guy with hat
Tall guy with acne
Nerd with white socks
Short guy with big ego
Normal looking guy (I think this is most of us!)
50-yr. old wargamer guy

And girls:
Goth chic
Overweight, sweaty girl
Girl with lazy eye
Gamer girlfriend with "deer in headlights" look

LOL!
But you forgot:
Guy with beard that badly needs to be trimmed
Semi-attractive girl with minimal clothing

And that Gamer Girlfriend can easily transform from "Deer in Headlights" to "Making fun of Everyone". I had one of those once. Dropped her quickly.

You forgot
"Guy with ponytail, trenchcoat and Anime shirt"
"Guy with geek culture shirt (I grok Spock?) hiked up over his belly"
"Telling-you-about-his-character guy"

And that Gamer Girlfriend can easily transform from "Deer in Headlights" to "Making fun of Everyone". I had one of those once. Dropped her quickly.

Good call

I find it scary that I've not only seen all these guys, I've BEEN a couple of them :)

Eventually I'll be the 50-yr. old wargamer guy. Then what? :)

Indeed, stating your IQ on a pubic forum does imply a certain amount of social retardation.

I think ACT/SAT scores are worse, though.

I used to work in a warehouse. When a fourth guy got hired, he managed to tell us within two hours --- no prompting --- that he had gotten a 28 ACT.

EIGHT YEARS AGO.

And I said, that's great, man...of the four guys being paid to move boxes, you are the third smartest.

Some more gamer stereotypes...

  • The overweight, 30-year-old virgin who works at a comic book store and still lives with his parents.
  • The guy who is into anime porn, or furry porn, or furry anime porn.
  • The condescending nerd who acts like he is intellectually superior to everybody else.
  • The adult male who writes Sailor Moon fan fiction and plays Yu-Gi-Oh.
  • The guy who fills his blog with snide remarks about sports (probably because a jock picked on him in high school) and organized religion/christianity (probably because a christian once told him that D&D was evil).
  • People who loudly talk about their LARP in public places ("So, then we chopped off the head of the werewolf and brought it to the Prince of the City...")

Also, it's possible for a single person to fit multiple stereotypes. :D
