If I had read this in a rugby magazine, I might be offended, but it's a videogame magazine. Videogamers suffer the same prejudices RPGers do--we're all perceived as geeks!

It may be slightly heavy handed but stereotypes do come from somewhere.

Though I have been fortunate in that 90% of the people I have gamed with in the past 15 years have not been antisocial freaks but when I go to cons and play or run games . . . um . . . I see where the author is coming from.

LOL! Spend 20 minutes at my local gaming store and you'll *definitely* see where the author is coming from. Tragically, there *are* many physically unattractive, socially awkward males playing RPGs. But the same is true of European football, if you think about it.

Indeed, stating your IQ on a pubic forum does imply a certain amount of social retardation.

Even more retarded is the misguided belief that an "IQ score" actually means anything other than how well you did on an arbitrary test.

CL, my wife would likely be making fun of everyone, or worse, as a therapist, she'd be trying to diagnose everyone. This is why I will never, ever, bring her to GenCon.


I don't know, I know everyone is unique, and what Mark said is certainly true, but it just seems like there are a few very distinct categories of people that I've come across at GenCon, that it's just surreal.

i'm also completely socially inept and not in great physical shape.

oh yeah, i'm 26, a virgin, and am still supported by my parents, and live with them outside of the school year.

so i probably fit a lot of the stereotypes.
