weapon inflation. What a wretched idea. Even 3.5s worst excesses didn't go there.
3.5 didn't go there because 3.0 already did. Take a look at 3e's Arms and Equipment and prepare to be shocked. Bladed Gauntlets, Orcish Shotputs, and Mercurial Greatswords are just ridiculous, while most of the others are useless garbage.

Edit: Ninjaed, but:

I never saw a game where the dm or othsr players would allow them in.

My impression was that wotc gave up trying to include that sort of ****.
it'd be a shame if they were backsliding.
I have, but not many and they were munchkiny.

Where did you get that idea? People have always been willing to fork over money for some unique signature weapons for their character. What really worries me is that they started on this book even before the PHB was in its final form... there's going to be some real crap in there.

Okay, confession time. I LOVED the Orcish Shotput. My half-ogre fighter used them to great effect. Those and the harpoon on a rope trick! :)

I'm sure we'll have some sort of scroll mechanic for Exploits. Pamphlets that tell you how to kick? :)

"dragon's tail cut for dummies"

"this easy to follow martial how-to-do scroll will self destruct after being read"

I depplaud(TM). The 3e ones mostly were poorly designed, but I never go yipee less stuff in my PH.
The amount of content in the PHB has been fixed for a very long time. Cutting the quasi-supernatural doodads in favor of other PHB material is good in my book.

Although the preview characters were equipped with sunrods... are those no longer considered alchemical? Or did they get cut from the PHB?

Hell yeah!

Hopefully they will be gone. Lanterns and torches are light source enough ;)
