Gaming at work

Thanks to all for the replies.

I'll take the advice to kind of feel out the group and see what the tastes are. I was amazed at the amount of interest that there is in this office, and hope it can turn into something fun.

The idea actually came to me while reading DM for Dummies :-)

Well, my normal weekly games are only two an a half hours anyways... when we switched to the d6 system, we found we could cover a lot of ground. I think a system that plays quickly might be a good idea if you want to do more than just one encounter per session.

If it's during lunch break, I can see a lot of people eating said lunches while working, and getting various jobs accomplished while playing. I think a game that encourages a "drop in" format might be fun - I read an old DRAGON a few days ago where their lunchtime game was set in an arena... that might be a neat idea.

You could have every second session based around an arena fight (always something big - don't bother with easy fights, here), and the other sessions built around politicking between the fights (if you suck here, you just might find that your gear's been sabotaged during the main fight).

And just to make non D&D suggestions, you could play campaign games of the old Avalon Hill's Gladiator.

This sounds like a great idea.

My buddies and I did this in High School "Study Hall." The teacher was the pottery teacher, and he didn't care if we studied or not. Nearly everyone in class gathered around to watch. I still have that game. Much fun, especially with various house rules.

Necroposting just a bit here...

I've been kicking around the idea of starting a lunch game also, I was just wondering if CodeChopper (or anyone else for that matter) had any more pearls of wisdom to share from his endevour.

I had also been looking at potentially using Dungeon Bash or Savage Worlds for the lunch game - Dungeon Bash for the simplicity of planning, and Savage Worlds for the quicker play mechanics.

Hi all,

I'm about to start a weekly lunchtime D&D 3.5 game at my work (using our nice conference room). I'm wondering if anyone here does this at their jobs (or even school).

I have five players lined up (all hot shot software developers) who all have at least some game experience, but mostly in older systems. One of the guys is a big NWN player.

Anyhoo, I plan the first session to be character creation (or reviewing what they came up with if they bring chars in) and then running Sunless Citadel after that. I ran through this module when I was re-introduced to the game and thought it was a good one to use.

Any advice for a new (semi-experienced) group? I have experience training players already, I have a weekly game with my son and three of his friends (all 10yrs old), but these guys are all M.B.A.'s with big heads and bigger egos :-)

egw

This sounds like a fun idea. I got four co workers including my boss, the director of the company, whom all game reguarly. I wonder could i do something like this.
